Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kendrik Down (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Abdullah Slice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Slice comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Last Resort-Papa Roach kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Abdullah Slice!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Ryoma Takatsuka.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Down works the jab nicely.
Down takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Slice throws a looping overhand right but Down ducks down to avoid it.
Down swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Slice.
Down lands a jab to Slice's midsection.
Down lands a nice shot that snaps Slice's head back.
Down wants to clinch up but Slice keeps it at a distance.
Down tries to close the distance and clinch but Slice swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Slice's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Down connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Slice scrambles back to his feet.
Slice closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Slice looks to score with a jab to the body but Down is just out of range.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Slice has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Slice lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Slice passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Slice has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Down takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Slice looks up at the clock and then as Down takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Slice smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

This has been an exciting period of action!
Slice looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Down is avoiding damage well.

Slice is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Down is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Slice postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Slice throws a series of punches but Down moves out of range.

Slice shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Down as he avoids it easily.

Down looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Slice misses with an uppercut. Down saw that one coming.
Slice listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Slice shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Down defends it nicely.
Slice will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Down is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Slice fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kendrik Down has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Abdullah Slice.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Slice walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

No joy there for Slice, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Down shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Slice but Slice pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Down bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Slice might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Slice shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Down as he jumps to the side.
Slice throws a right and a left that both miss.
Slice is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Down.
Slice throws a right hand that Down ducks under and follows up with a left that Down also avoids with ease.
Slice takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Down clobbers Slice with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
