The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beef throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sims was covering up waiting for the punch and Beef finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Beef postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Beef throwing strikes from guard but Sims blocks nicely.
Beef drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Sims dives on top into guard.
Sims won't allow Beef to get back to his feet.

Sims really is a fat lump.
Beef has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Sims off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Beef throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Beef passes Sims's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Beef connects with a nice short shot to Sims's temple.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Beef has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Sims is desperately trying to improve his position but Beef has a good base and remains in mount.
