Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Milton Merritt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Oras Wealy!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Merritt throws a combination that misses
and Wealy counters with a one-two to the body.
Wealy misses with a takedown attempt
and Merritt counters with a stiff right hand.
Wealy with a poor takedown

and Merritt moves into the clinch.

Merritt breaks the clinch.
Wealy gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Merritt counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Milton Merritt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Oras Wealy.
Wealy tries to clinch but Merritt moves out of range.

Wealy wants to clinch up but Merritt keeps it at a distance.
Merritt tries to close the distance and clinch up but Wealy swats him away and circles back towards the center.

The fight stays on the outside here - Merritt looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Wealy swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Merritt could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Merritt manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Wealy won't allow Merritt to get back to his feet.

Wealy postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Merritt is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Wealy, into his guard.

Merritt stands up from Wealy's guard - Merritt perhaps looking for a knockout.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Wealy tries to keep at a distance but Merritt has taken the fight into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Milton Merritt will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Merritt is looking to clinch but Wealy is avoiding it.
Wealy tries to bum rush Merritt with a series of wild strikes but Merritt uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Wealy keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Merritt looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Wealy tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Wealy is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Merritt controlling from the full mount.
Wealy looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!

Wealy is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Merritt gets his way!

Merritt is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Wealy is defending well though. Merritt let's go of the attempt for now.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Merritt tries to clinch there but Wealy circles away.
Merritt tries to clinch up but Wealy circles away and keeps his distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wealy avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Merritt.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wealy is trying to buck Merritt off.
Merritt is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Wealy is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Merritt's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Merritt is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Wealy wants to get back to full guard but Merritt has passed into side control.
Wealy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Merritt tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Merritt has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Merritt, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
