PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Wuzz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ruphus Duphus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ruphus Duphus struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 207.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ruphus Duphus!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wuzz tries to keep at a distance but Duphus has taken the fight into the clinch.

Duphus has picked Wuzz up - he's going for a ride! Duphus dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Wuzz looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Wuzz has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Wuzz is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Duphus scores with a couple of nice shots.
Wuzz is looking for a sweep. Duphus is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Duphus frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

The referee warns Wuzz that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Duphus has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Socrates' House of Questions. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Duphus uses his free foot to push down on Wuzz's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Wuzz.
Duphus lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Wuzz gets back to half guard.
Duphus winds up and cracks Wuzz with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Duphus scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Duphus is pressing down on Wuzz's thigh, looking to free his foot. Wuzz is holding on for now.
Wuzz is looking to escape.
Duphus lands strikes from half guard.

Duphus seems to be working for a kimura but Wuzz defends the submission attempt.
Wuzz has hold of Duphus's hands but Duphus slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Duphus working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Duphus is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Wuzz sees it coming and defends easily.

Wuzz looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Duphus is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Wuzz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Wuzz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Duphus has escaped the position, nice work there.
Duphus sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Wuzz is trying to work for a kimura but Duphus is defending well.

Wuzz has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Duphus defend it? Wuzz steps over the head and cranks it - Duphus is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Wuzz!
