PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lefty Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Wong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe Wong told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lefty Hall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Wong!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, John Roberts and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wong slaps away a takedown attempt from Hall, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Wong looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Hall shoots in looking for a takedown but Wong manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hall's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Hall.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lefty Hall. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wong shoots and misses

and Hall counters by clinching up.
Wong jumps guard but Hall turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Hall just misses with a elbow thrown towards Wong's brow.
Hall tries to break free but Wong pushes him back against the cage.
Wong jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hall walks away with a smile on his face. Wong gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Wong tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hall sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wong somewhat.
Hall throws a leg kick but Wong sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Wong gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hall passes Wong's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Hall is controlling the pace.
Hall throwing shots but Wong is blocking nicely.
Hall wants to stand up but Wong is controlling the position.
Hall is pressing down on Wong's thigh, looking to free his foot. Wong is holding on for now.

Hall wants to stand up but Wong is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hall passes to side control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wong seems a little lost for a moment, as Hall dominates the positioning.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hall tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Hall has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Hall has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

We're going to have a standup here because Lefty Hall wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Wong is fighting off a takedown attempt but Hall is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Wong to the mat. Wong regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Hall wants to get up but he can't break Wong's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Hall has gone for a leg lock! Wong slips out almost immediately though and dives into Hall's guard.

Hall has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Wong is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hall.
Hall manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Wong wants to pass the guard but Hall is defending well.
Wong is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Hall wants to stand but Wong is controlling the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hall is on top in guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Wong wants to get back to his feet but Hall is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Joe Wong has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lefty Hall is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Hall has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
