PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Teddy Walls (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Teddy Walls!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Jones!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Alyssa Summers and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones rushes Walls and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Walls pulls guard.
Jones stopping the sweep attempt from Walls.
Jones passes into half guard.

Jones decides to stand up.
Jon Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Walls gets caught flat footed, as Jones shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Walls looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Walls wants to hit a switch here but Jones passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Walls there!
Jones tries to control but Walls wriggling away.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jones stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Walls moves out of range as Jones throws a body kick.
Jones throws a sloppy head kick and Walls moves out of range easily.

Jones drives through with a takedown into Walls's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Walls is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Walls will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Jones avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Jones is stalling in the full guard.
Walls keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jon Jones wasn't active enough on the ground.

Jones shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Walls napping and manages to drive through into side control!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Walls parries the strikes from Jones easily there. Jones is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Walls to escape.
Walls tries to buck Jones off but Jones is having none of it.
Walls manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Walls knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jones on the ground.
Jones is trying to control. Walls wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Jones missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Walls has hold of Jones's hands but Jones slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jones throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Jones stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Walls to get to his feet.

Walls gets tackled into the cage by Jones. Jones maintains the clinch.
Walls really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Walls jumps guard but Jones stands there with Walls around his waist. Walls gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Walls avoids a wild elbow strike from Jones.
Walls prevents Jones from breaking the clinch.
Jones wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Jones just misses with a elbow thrown towards Walls's brow.

Jones wants the takedown. Walls is fighting it off but Jones persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Walls's guard against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Walls wants to hit a switch here but Jones passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Walls there!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Jones dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



A momentary lapse in concentration from Walls enables Jones to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Walls manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Walls is trying to maintain the position but Jones is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Jones prevents Walls from standing back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jon Jones.
Walls tries for a takedown but Jones sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Jones lands with a kick to the temple. Walls shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Jones is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Walls's half guard.
Jones has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Jones prevents Walls from improving his position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jones stands up from half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Jones tightens his grip and picks Walls up, before dumping him to the ground. Walls manages to land in guard.
Jones is looking to work some ground and pound but Walls has wrist control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Walls is keeping the position for now.
Jones trying to control but Walls is working from the bottom.
Jones trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Walls is working an open guard so Jones takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Jones shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Walls is not content to let Jones control the position.

Walls regains full guard. Nicely done.
Walls trying to keep a closed guard but Jones is proving a slippery customer.
Jones throws an elbow that misses. Walls uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jones's guard. Nice move by Walls!

Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Jones closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Walls to the mat! Walls manages to get full guard.

Walls is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jones is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Walls's half guard.

Jones is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Jones trying to control the action but Walls is working from the bottom.
Walls wants to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Walls is staying active underneath Jones, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Jones not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Jones throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Jones trying to control the action but Walls is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jon Jones has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Jones misses with a head kick.

Jones manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Walls on his heels. He'll look to pass Walls's guard now, I'm sure.
Jones wants to control from the top but Walls keeps moving.

Jones not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Walls is looking to sweep but instead, Jones has passed into half guard.

Jones decides to stand up.

Walls fails with the takedown.

Walls clinches up with Jones and pushes him back against the cage.
Walls prevents Jones from breaking the clinch.
Walls goes for a takedown attempt but Jones pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jones closes the distance and clinches.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jon Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
