The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oneal steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Smith.
Smith rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Oneal counters with a one-two to the body.
Kenny Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Oneal ducks under a wild hook from Smith.

Oneal moves into the clinch successfully.
Oneal is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Smith throws a head kick but Oneal moves out of range.

Smith tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Oneal defends well and Smith ends up having to push Oneal into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

and Oneal counters with a stiff right hand.
Oneal throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Smith's waist but Smith gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Oneal off to one side.
Oneal cracks Smith with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Oneal rushes Smith and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Oneal has had enough of the clinch but Smith keeps him there for the moment.

and Oneal counters with a shoot takedown. Smith fights it but they end up in guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Oneal working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Oneal will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Oneal throws a strike but Smith rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Smith postures up in Oneal's guard and throws a big left but Oneal blocks it.

Smith takes a little break here. Oneal wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith just content to control the position.
Oneal tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Smith easily slips into full mount!
Oneal is squirming around, avoiding Smith's attempts to control the action.

Smith trying to control but Oneal is having none of it.
Smith is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Oneal fails with an attempt to clinch.

Smith throws a low kick but it's checked well by Oneal.

We've been informed that Smith has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Smith looks to land a combination but Oneal avoids it well.

Smith shoots for a double leg takedown but Oneal sprawls well. He's pushed Smith's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Smith tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Oneal defends well and Smith ends up having to push Oneal into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Oneal really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Smith tries to bum rush Oneal with a series of wild strikes but Oneal uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Oneal is looking for a sweep. Smith is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Oneal wants to control the action here but instead Smith manages to pass to full mount!

Smith is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Oneal with him. Oneal is trying to defend but Smith has an arm under the chin now! Oneal grimaces and is forced to tap out!
