PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rhett Ray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Billy Bob enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rhett Ray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Billy Bob!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, John Kavanagh and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ray.

Ray tries to keep at a distance but Bob has taken the fight into the clinch.

Bob has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Ray regains guard immediately.
Ray pulls Bob in to control the position.
Ray's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Bob stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ray swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ray pulls Bob in close to prevent any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bob postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ray throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Bob tries to stand but Ray is controlling from the bottom.
Ray trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Ray throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Ray will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Bob closes the distance and clinches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bob has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Ray is trying to keep an underhook but Bob manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Ray regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Bob.
Bob postures up.
Bob wants to stand and escape but instead Ray has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Ray is stalling in the full guard.

Bob has an active guard here but Ray has managed to pass into half guard.
Ray could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bob wants to get back to his feet.
Ray with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Ray is keen to just control but Bob is a slippery customer.

Bob looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Bob has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Bob looks winded!
Ray is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Bob kicks Ray off and gets back to his feet.

Bob drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Ray wants to control the position but Bob says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Bob tries to stand and escape but Ray is controlling the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ray is trying to get back to full guard.
Ray is controlling Bob's trapped leg to prevent Bob from advancing to side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Billy Bob dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Bob scores with a jab to the body.

Ray gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Bob to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Ray looking for a sweep. Not yet Ray, not yet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Ray looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bob is one step ahead there.

Rhett Ray has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Ray shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Bob throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Ray escapes and throws Bob's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Ray is looking to take a break and control but Bob is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bob explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
A head kick misses from Bob.
Bob is breathing heavily.
Ray tries to clinch up but Bob circles away and keeps his distance.

Ray closes the distance and clinches.

Bob jumps guard.
Ray is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ray wants to control from the top but Bob keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Rhett Ray just wasn't active enough.

Bob drives through and clinches with Ray against the cage.

Bob is trying to trip Ray. He has hold of a leg but Ray is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Bob persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Ray is trying to control the position but Bob postures up.
Ray has his hands on Bob's head, controlling the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Bob stands up from Ray's guard - Bob perhaps looking for a knockout.
Ray has a takedown stuffed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Billy Bob will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Ray tries to keep at a distance but Bob has taken the fight into the clinch.
Ray is trying to push Bob away but Bob has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Bob is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Ray can't fight it off and eventually Bob manages to take the fight to the floor. Ray looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Bob content to stall in guard here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ray controlling the position.

Bob is looking to stand up but Ray won't let him.
Bob takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Ray wants to improve his position but instead Bob has moved into half guard.
Ray is refusing to be controlled, as Bob sits in half guard.
Ray missing with punches from the bottom.
Ray has a hand on Bob's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Bob takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ray regains half guard.
Ray trying to control from the bottom.
Ray trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Ray is squirming around, avoiding Bob's attempts to control the action.
Bob is in the full mount, landing strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bob wants to control the pace but Ray is squirming around nicely.
Ray is trying to escape the mount.

Bob goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Ray turns into him and now he's in Bob's guard.

Bob has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Ray is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Bob.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bob takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Ray tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ray wants to stand but Bob has his arm trapped.
Rhett Ray has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Billy Bob is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Ray is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bob is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Billy Bob.
Well Bob has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
