PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Trent Haaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Silly Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Haaker might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Im Not Your Boyfriend. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Guy tries to keep at a distance but Haaker has taken the fight into the clinch.
Guy landing knees to the body.
Guy is looking to control Haaker's arms but Haaker gets an underhook and turns him. Now Guy has his back to the cage.

Haaker has clasped his hands together around Guy's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Guy is looking for a sweep.
Guy looks to move to half guard but instead Haaker has passed into mount! Damn!
Guy tries to hold on but Haaker pushes him away.

Guy is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Haaker accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Haaker is stalling here. Guy is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Haaker seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Guy has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Guy decides to stand back up. Guy steps back and let's Haaker get back to his feet.
Guy lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Haaker backs up against the cage.

Haaker goes for a takedown attempt but Guy pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Guy rushes Haaker and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Guy tries a knee to the head but Haaker blocks it.
Guy is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Haaker is keeping busy.

Haaker throws a head kick but Guy moves out of range.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Guy has gone for a leg lock! Haaker slips out almost immediately though and dives into Guy's guard.

Guy is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Haaker tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Guy wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Haaker manages to work his way to half guard, despite Guy's best efforts.
Guy passes the guard and advances to mount!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Guy clinches but Haaker breaks the clinch

and Haaker decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Guy's guard.
Haaker wants to get up but he can't break Guy's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Haaker is trying to escape the mount.
Guy unloads with some shots from mount but Haaker bucks and avoids them well.
Haaker wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Haaker is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Guy gets his way!

Guy is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Haaker defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Guy is trying to stick to Haaker's back but Haaker is turning into Guy. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Guy's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Haaker.

Haaker throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Haaker breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Haaker has Guy pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Haaker pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Guy tumbling to the mat - Haaker dives into Guy's guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Guy holds on and takes a little breather.
Haaker wants to control from the top but Guy keeps moving.

That was a close second round but I would say that Trent Haaker will probably get the nod.

Guy had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Haaker is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Guy Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Haaker's back instead.

Guy has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Haaker has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
