PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Geeves Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Abednego Smiff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Armstrong kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Kickstart My Heart. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smiff shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Armstrong's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Smiff throws a big elbow that misses.
Smiff postures up in Armstrong's guard and throws a big left but Armstrong blocks it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smiff postures up and lands a big shot to Armstrong's brow.

Smiff tries to free his leg and advance position but Armstrong is retaining full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Smiff darts in looking for a takedown but Armstrong gets double underhooks and turns Smiff into the cage.

Smiff's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Armstrong fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Smiff has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Smiff dives in and grabs Armstrong's left leg, looking for a takedown. Armstrong pushes down on Smiff's head and hops out.
Armstrong misses with a straight right.
Armstrong tries to close the distance and clinch but Smiff swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Smiff moves out of range of the body kick.
Armstrong connects with a nice looking jab.

Geeves Armstrong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Abednego Smiff.
Smiff has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Armstrong.

Smiff is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Smiff working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Smiff is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Smiff wants to advance to full mount but Armstrong doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Armstrong can't keep his opponent in guard - Smiff advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

It looks like Armstrong has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.

Good leg kick by Armstrong there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Armstrong tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Smiff was well out of range. Poor timing from Armstrong.

Smiff takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Horrible takedown by Smiff or perhaps it was just good defense by Armstrong which made him look bad.

Armstrong takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Armstrong - that will leave a mark!
Smiff has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Armstrong.
Smiff gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Armstrong walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Smiff drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Armstrong swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Smiff's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

A very excited looking Geeves Armstrong made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
