PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mat Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Stewart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stewart has chosen Wiz Khalifa - Work Hard Play Hard as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mat Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eric Stewart!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, John Roberts and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stewart looks to land a combination but Diaz avoids it well.
Diaz digs a good body shot into Stewart's ribs.
Stewart throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sloppy strikes from Diaz. Those never looked like landing.
Diaz comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Nice cross by Diaz.
Diaz throws a combination that misses

and Stewart counters with a nice double leg into side control. Diaz won't be happy with that.
This has been an exciting period of action!
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Stewart is putting a hurting on Diaz here, landing some big shots from side control.

Stewart is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Diaz knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Mat Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Stewart shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Diaz napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Stewart is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Diaz has escaped the position, nice work there.
Diaz manages to get back to half guard.

Diaz looks like he's trying to stand up.
Stewart not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Diaz looking to hit a scissor sweep but Stewart is one step ahead there.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Stewart thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Stewart trying to control the position from guard on top but Diaz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Stewart avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Diaz is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Diaz wants to sweep but no luck.
Diaz keeping moving, preventing Stewart from controlling successfully.

Diaz is trying to control the position but Stewart postures up.
Diaz tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Stewart sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Diaz's guard.

Stewart is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Stewart looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Stewart is looking for a kimura but Diaz is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Stewart to get the leverage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eric Stewart dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Diaz throws a jab but it's blocked by Stewart.
Diaz fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Diaz slips a jab and a cross from Stewart.
Stewart throws a nice looking combination but Diaz bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Diaz throws a series of punches but Stewart avoids them all with ease.
Stewart looks for a takedown but Diaz sprawls well.
Diaz throws a body punch but Stewart moves out of range.
Diaz jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Stewart throws a series of punches but Diaz avoids them all with ease.

and Stewart counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Diaz jabs Stewart to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Stewart lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Diaz backs up against the cage.
Diaz misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Stewart.
Diaz works Stewart's body with a nice hook.
Diaz throws a right and a left that Stewart avoids nicely.
Diaz throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Diaz lands a nice shot that snaps Stewart's head back.
Diaz is looking to wear down Stewart with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Stewart throws a sloppy head kick and Diaz moves out of range easily.
Diaz throws a right hand that Stewart ducks under and follows up with a left that Stewart also avoids with ease.
Stewart tries to bum rush Diaz with a series of wild strikes but Diaz uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Diaz lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Diaz.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Stewart works over Diaz's head and body with a nice combination.

Diaz misses with an uppercut. Stewart saw that one coming.
Diaz throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Stewart avoids the body shot from Diaz.
Diaz rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Stewart moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Mat Diaz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Stewart shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Diaz is trying to defend but Stewart finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Diaz tries to kick Stewart off but Stewart keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Stewart is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Diaz definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Diaz wants to get back to his feet.

Stewart is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Diaz is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
