PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between David Giljotin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Giljotin comes to the cage accompanied by Ticon - Miss 11 PM (DJ CHILLER REMIX 2011) . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 4 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 17 - 1, fighting out of London, David Giljotin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick James!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, William Gold and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

James tries to sprawl but Giljotin drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Giljotin lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
James is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Giljotin's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Giljotin's back!
James trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Giljotin doesn't escape.
You can see the frustration on Giljotin's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

James is looking to control Giljotin's arms but Giljotin gets an underhook and turns him. Now James has his back to the cage.
James connects with a knee to the head.
James has a couple of punches blocked by Giljotin.

Giljotin has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but James regains guard immediately.
Giljotin wants to pass the guard but James is keeping the position.

James is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Giljotin is controlling him.
Giljotin is looking to work some ground and pound but James has wrist control.

James has his feet on Giljotin's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Giljotin has managed to clinch.
Giljotin changes levels and goes for a takedown here. James fights it off and pushes away nicely.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A close round but Rick James will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


James lets loose with a powerful body kick. Giljotin will feel that in the morning.

Giljotin fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Giljotin tightens his grip and picks James up, before dumping him to the ground. James manages to land in guard.

James wriggles free and stands up.
Rick James is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
James throws a head kick that misses
and Giljotin cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Giljotin tries to close the distance and clinch but James swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Giljotin gets a takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Giljotin is sneakily working for an arm triangle but James sees it coming and defends easily.

James has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Giljotin is working away from the top position though.
James regains full guard. Nicely done.
Giljotin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Giljotin postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! James is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Giljotin, into his guard.
James stays in close to Giljotin's body and controls the position.
James wanted to stand there but Giljotin had control of the position.

Giljotin looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Giljotin is striking from the bottom but James uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.

James seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

James got a little sloppy there for a moment and Giljotin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, James has managed to get both his arms back between Giljotin's legs - danger averted.

James is looking to stand up but Giljotin won't let him.
James must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
James is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Giljotin has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. James is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Giljotin.

James is controlling the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Giljotin is pressing down on James's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Giljotin isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. James stacks Giljotin on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by James!

James decides to stand back up. James steps back and let's Giljotin get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
James throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
James scores with a nice body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick James really dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


James pulls out of a head kick attempt.
James attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
James lands a leg kick that knocks Giljotin off balance momentarily.
Giljotin misses with a series of wild punches.
Sloppy strikes from James. Those never looked like landing.
Giljotin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around James's waist but James gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Giljotin off to one side.
James tries to clinch but Giljotin is having none of it.
James is looking to score with low kicks.
Giljotin shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts James as he jumps to the side.

Giljotin shoots for a double leg takedown but James sprawls well. He's pushed Giljotin's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.

Giljotin drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but James manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Giljotin has James in his guard.

Giljotin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but James can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

James slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Giljotin looking to hit a scissor sweep but James is one step ahead there.
James is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Giljotin will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Giljotin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Giljotin has an active guard here but James has managed to pass into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

David Giljotin showed his dominance in that final round.

Rick James decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
