Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Takeya Maeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rocco Melendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rocco Melendez will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rocco Melendez!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Taro Takaoka and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Melendez scores with a jab to the jaw.
Maeda shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Melendez pinned against the cage. Melendez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Melendez misses with an uppercut.
Melendez stuffs the takedown attempt from Maeda. Maeda gets slowly back to his feet.
Maeda misses with a low kick.
Maeda bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
The fighters circling - Melendez throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Maeda scores with a takedown into Melendez's guard.
Maeda wants to get up but he can't break Melendez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Melendez lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Maeda!

Melendez trying to control but Maeda is having none of it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Maeda wants to hold on but Melendez pushes him away.
Melendez looking to ground and pound but Maeda is blocking nicely.
Melendez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Maeda is desperately trying to improve his position but Melendez has a good base and remains in mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Melendez throws a sloppy strike and Maeda uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Maeda has ended up in Melendez's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Nice takedown defense from Melendez. No joy for Maeda on that attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maeda shoots in looking for a takedown. Melendez tries to sprawl out of it but Maeda keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Melendez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Takeya Maeda. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Maeda misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Takeya Maeda is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Horrible takedown by Maeda or perhaps it was just good defense by Melendez which made him look bad.

Maeda changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Melendez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Melendez can't do much from the bottom here.
Melendez manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Maeda is trying to get back to full guard.
Melendez is just content to waste time from the top position. Maeda takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maeda keeping moving, preventing Melendez from controlling successfully.
Melendez slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Despite being in the dominant position, Rocco Melendez just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Maeda looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Melendez!
Maeda wants to take Melendez's back here but Melendez is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Melendez wants to hold on but Maeda pushes him away.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Melendez is working to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maeda trying to control but Melendez is having none of it.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Melendez is trying to reverse the position but instead Maeda has taken his back - oops!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Melendez throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Maeda shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Maeda was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Melendez is working to get back to half guard.

Melendez reaches up to try and control the position but Maeda seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Melendez rolls and tries to escape and now Maeda has his back!
Melendez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maeda. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Maeda doesn't have the hooks in and Melendez manages to turn into his guard.
Melendez wants to pass the guard but Maeda is keeping the position.
Maeda is trying to keep Melendez in close.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Maeda pulls Melendez in close to prevent any damage.
Melendez stands up over Maeda, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Maeda has his foot on Melendez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Melendez works his way back into a safe position though.

Maeda is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Melendez pulls his head out easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Melendez throws a strike but Maeda avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Melendez wants to pass the guard but Maeda is keeping the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Melendez looking to sit in guard and control but Maeda gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Melendez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Melendez looking for a sweep. Not yet Melendez, not yet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Takeya Maeda showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Maeda has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
