PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paulo Fernando (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harris has chosen Kevin Rudolf - In the City as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Paulo Fernando has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Fernando!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Frank Harris!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Alexandre Firmino and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Harris gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Fernando wants to take the fight to the mat but Harris manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Harris gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Fernando regains guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fernando shoots in for a double leg but Harris sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Fernando drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Harris dives on top into guard.

Fernando pulls Harris in close to his closed guard and prevents Harris from doing any damage or advancing position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Harris accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Fernando seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Fernando shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Harris sprawls well. Harris wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Fernando gets slowly back to his feet.
Fernando tries to clinch up but Harris circles away and keeps his distance.

Fernando makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Fernando.

Harris looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Fernando lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Harris!

Fernando sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Fernando can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Harris is looking to escape.

Fernando gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Harris tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Fernando manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Harris throws a series of punches but Fernando moves out of range.
Harris misses with a two punch combination.

Fernando changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Harris looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Fernando goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Harris has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Fernando but great work by Harris.

Fernando is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Harris off and has taken his back!
Harris is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Fernando off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Fernando shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Harris as he jumps to the side.
Fernando tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Fernando closes the distance and clinches up with Harris, looking for a takedown. Fernando pushes Harris against the cage but Harris circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

A relieved looking Frank Harris thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
