Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Merle Rodgers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Demian Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maia comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Linkin Park - Numb kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Demian Maia has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Merle Rodgers's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Johanna Lukiainen and Roosa Järviläinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodgers avoids the body shot from Maia.
Rodgers throws a head kick but Maia moves out of range.
A head kick misses from Rodgers.
Rodgers uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Maia.
Maia closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rodgers's guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Maia controls from within his opponent's guard.
Maia stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rodgers swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Maia trying to control but Rodgers is working from the bottom.
Rodgers is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rodgers wants to sweep here but Maia controlling him for the moment.
Maia seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Demian Maia hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Maia throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Rodgers tries to clinch there but Maia circles away.
Maia finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Rodgers uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Maia has time to react.
Rodgers changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Maia looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Maia manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Rodgers is looking to stall here but Maia recovers full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rodgers drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Maia dives on top into guard.
Maia drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Maia jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Rodgers trying to keep a closed guard but Maia is proving a slippery customer.
Maia is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Maia showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Maia passes easily into side control. Nice work.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maia is working to tighten his grip on Rodgers's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Rodgers has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Maia is really squeezing tight and eventually Rodgers passes out! Maia breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Demian Maia!
Demian Maia spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
