PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Arden Dejesus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Hess (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James Hess will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Arden Dejesus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Hess!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Russell Pearce and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hess rushes Dejesus and presses him up against the cage.
Dejesus is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Hess scores with a shot to the side of Dejesus's head.
Dejesus lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Hess backwards.
Hess has Dejesus pressed against the cage, preventing Dejesus from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Hess has clasped his hands together around Dejesus's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Dejesus tries to improve position but can't.

Hess decides to stand back up.
Hess fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hess shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dejesus pinned against the cage. Dejesus gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hess misses with a series of wild punches.

Dejesus fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hess manages to avoid it.
No luck for Hess with that takedown attempt.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Dejesus ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hess moves away.
Hess tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dejesus swivels and escapes.
Dejesus takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Hess misses with a takedown attempt - Dejesus sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Hess tries to clinch but Dejesus is having none of it.
Dejesus tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hess paws at him with a jab and circles away.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dejesus tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hess was well out of range. Poor timing from Dejesus.
Hess tries to clinch but Dejesus is having none of it.
Dejesus takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Dejesus throws a body punch but Hess moves out of range.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Hess fails with a takedown attempt.

Dejesus's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

James Hess is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Dejesus for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
James Hess has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Arden Dejesus is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Arden Dejesus.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dejesus, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
