PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Quentin Emerson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dong Mainus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mainus has chosen I want it all as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Quentin Emerson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dong Mainus!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mainus feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Emerson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Mainus controls from within his opponent's guard.
Emerson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Emerson keeping full guard, as Mainus tries to pass.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mainus engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Dong Mainus wasn't active enough on the ground.
Mainus throws a leg kick that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mainus tries a head kick but it misses.
Mainus defending well as Emerson loads up on a big left hand.

Mainus looking to score a takedown here. Emerson is defending well but Mainus drives through and ends up in Emerson's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mainus controlling from the top position.
Emerson wants to get back to his feet but Mainus is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Mainus would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Emerson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mainus on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mainus stays in close to Emerson's body and controls the position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dong Mainus was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Mainus throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Emerson was covering up waiting for the punch and Mainus finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Mainus controls from within his opponent's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Emerson looking to control but Mainus passes into half guard.
Mainus content to control rather than advance.
Mainus works his way into full mount!
Emerson keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mainus controlling his opponent.
Emerson takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Mainus looking to control and managing it successfully.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mainus lands a heavy elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dong Mainus dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Emerson takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Mainus throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Emerson was covering up waiting for the punch and Mainus finishes the takedown easily into guard.


Emerson is rocked!
Mainus wants to stand but Emerson is controlling his posture from full guard.
Oh Emerson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Mainus works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Emerson seems to have got his legs back now.
Mainus with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Nice strikes from Mainus there.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Dong Mainus has got the better of the ground game so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Emerson is not content to let Mainus control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mainus wants to get back to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Dong Mainus.

Mainus dives in and gets a big takedown. He lands in full mount and immediately unloads a series of heavy strikes! Emerson has had enough and taps out.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Dong Mainus!
After the fight, Dong Mainus was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
