PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rosendo Sims (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Weidman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Weidman is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Never Say Never-Justine Bieber Feat. Jaden Smith. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Donald Grub and Sam Margolis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sims stuffs the takedown attempt from Weidman. Weidman gets slowly back to his feet.
Weidman tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Sims counters with a left and a right that stings Weidman.
Sims really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Weidman throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sims.
Weidman closes the distance but Sims moves to the side

and Sims counters by clinching up.
Sims fails to pull guard.
Sims misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Weidman connects with a nasty looking knee right to Sims's face.

It looks like Rosendo Sims has been cut.

Sims's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Weidman doesn't manage to clinch there - Sims circles away.

Weidman gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Sims to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Sims will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Weidman is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sims stops Weidman from standing up.
Sims slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rosendo Sims wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Sims feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Weidman has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Sims is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Weidman.
A lull in the action here as Sims stalls from top position.

Weidman looking for a sweep but Sims has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Weidman is trying to stand.
Sims lands a nice shot to the head.
Weidman is in all sorts of trouble here.
Sims pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Weidman is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Sims breaks from Weidman's wrist control and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Weidman moves to clinch but Sims breaks away

and Sims moves into the clinch.
Weidman lands a shoulder strike.
Sims lands a body punch.

Sims breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sims slips a jab and a cross from Weidman.
Weidman moves in looking to clinch but Sims pushes him off.
Chris Weidman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sims shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sims showed some decent athleticism there.

Sims decides to return to a standing position.

The fight stays on the outside here - Weidman looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Weidman throws a series of punches but Sims avoids them all with ease.
Weidman wants to clinch up but Sims keeps it at a distance.

Sims shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sims was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Sims decides to take the fight back to the feet.

and Sims counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Sims.
Sims is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Weidman lands a body punch in the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Weidman lands an elbow that stopped Sims in his tracks for a moment.

Weidman lands a damaging elbow.
Weidman is looking to control Sims's arms but Sims gets an underhook and turns him. Now Weidman has his back to the cage.

Sims is trying to push Weidman away but Weidman has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Sims's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Sims is rocked!
Weidman lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Sims backwards.
Oh Sims is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
A body shot lands from Weidman.
Weidman throws a big uppercut that drops Sims! More strikes from Weidman and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Sims lies dazed against the cage as Weidman celebrates with his cornermen!

Chris Weidman was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
