The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Datsik misses with a double jab

and Smith holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Smith scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Datsik tries to improve position but can't.
Datsik knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.

Smith decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Bradley Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Smith cracks Datsik with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Smith has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Smith has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Smith closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Smith wants to get back to striking at distance but Datsik won't allow it.

Smith tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Datsik smiles and moves away.

Datsik dives in and grabs Smith's left leg, looking for a takedown. Smith pushes down on Datsik's head and hops out.

and Smith decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Datsik's guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Datsik. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smith seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Datsik throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Smith escapes and throws Datsik's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Smith looks up at the clock and then as Datsik takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Smith smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
