Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Calvin Fawkes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, BJ Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Calvin Fawkes!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Illya Tyunina and Aleksandr Martynov.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fawkes throws a right and a left that Penn avoids nicely.
Fawkes tries to clinch but Penn moves away

and Penn counters with a single leg into guard. Fawkes didn't expect that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fawkes is looking to stand back up but Penn counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Fawkes.
Fawkes is trying to escape back to his feet but Penn uses the scramble to pass into side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Penn working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Penn really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Penn takes a little break here. Fawkes wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Fawkes is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Penn has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Penn happy to just control the position for now.

Penn has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Penn instigates a clinch.
Fawkes can't break the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Fawkes's face as he tries to break the clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Penn creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Fawkes tries to score a body lock takedown but Penn shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fawkes wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Penn has him pressed against the cage.
Fawkes pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Penn's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've been told by Penn's head coaches at Cozad MMA St Petersburg that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Fawkes throws a right and a left that Penn avoids nicely.
Penn on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Penn misses with a head kick.
Fawkes with a lazy takedown attempt
and Penn counters with a three punch combo that has Fawkes backing up. Fawkes nods at Penn to acknowledge the strikes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Fawkes takes a kick to the side of the head.
Penn leaves Fawkes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
BJ Penn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Calvin Fawkes.
Fawkes looks winded!

Penn gets a double leg takedown into Fawkes's guard.
Penn looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Penn seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Fawkes for as long as he can get away with.

Penn drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Penn jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of BJ Penn.
Fawkes tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Penn paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Penn closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Fawkes quickly recovers to half guard.
Penn content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Penn not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Penn takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Fawkes felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Penn looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Penn passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Fawkes!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

BJ Penn dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Penn wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Penn drives through with a takedown into guard.
Penn stops Fawkes from standing up.
Penn controls from within his opponent's guard.
Penn with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Fawkes wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Penn manages to pass to side control.
Fawkes is breathing heavily.
Fawkes is looking to escape.
Penn performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Penn moves into full mount! Fawkes won't be happy about that!

Penn looking to secure an arm triangle but Fawkes defends it well.
Fawkes is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Penn is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Fawkes to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Fawkes shrugs it off.

Fawkes is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Penn scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Penn is landing with some decent strikes but Fawkes is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Penn is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Penn extends the arm and Fawkes is forced to tap!
