PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Norberto Oneil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Dancer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dancer has chosen Deftones - Feiticeira as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Norberto Oneil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jake Dancer!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Oneil gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Dancer breaks the clinch.
Oneil blocks a head kick by Dancer.
The fight stays on the outside here - Dancer looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Oneil decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Oneil landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Oneil slows the pace down in half guard.
Dancer trying to control but Oneil postures up.
Oneil is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Dancer is trying to stand.

Oneil stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Dancer to get to his feet.

Oneil shoots in and bounces Dancer off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Dancer wants to control the position but Oneil says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dancer has a hand on Oneil's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Oneil takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Dancer sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Oneil working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dancer is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Oneil pulls his head out easily.

Dancer trying to control from the bottom.
Oneil working over Dancer with some ground and pound. Dancer looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dancer wants to improve his position but Oneil is controlling well.
Dancer is refusing to be controlled, as Oneil sits in half guard.
Oneil will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Oneil is looking to take a break and control but Dancer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Oneil lands a nice short elbow.

Oneil decides to return to a standing position.
Oneil fails with an attempt to clinch.
Dancer fails with the takedown.

Oneil shoots in and bounces Dancer off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Oneil is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Dancer trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Dancer avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Dancer keeping moving, preventing Oneil from controlling successfully.
Oneil looking to pass the guard.

Dancer is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Oneil trying to control but Dancer is working from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Norberto Oneil dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Oneil tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dancer swivels and escapes.
Dancer fails to land with a series of punches.
Oneil tries to clinch up but Dancer circles away and keeps his distance.
Oneil swats away the attempt to clinch by Dancer.

Oneil closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Dancer quickly recovers to half guard.
Oneil wants to control but Dancer is keeping him busy.
Oneil is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Dancer is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Dancer is trying to stand back up but Oneil is controlling him
Dancer is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Dancer is not content to let Oneil control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Norberto Oneil.
Oneil slips a jab from Dancer.
Dancer tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Oneil swivels and escapes.
Oneil shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dancer pinned against the cage. Dancer gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Oneil tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Oneil breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Oneil closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dancer to the mat! Dancer manages to get full guard.

Dancer is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Oneil seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Oneil prevents Dancer from getting back to his feet.
Dancer wants to hit a switch here but Oneil passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Dancer there!
Oneil looking to control and managing it successfully.

Oneil gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Dancer is looking to clinch but Oneil is avoiding it.

Oneil rushes Dancer and presses him up against the cage.
Dancer has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Oneil tries to pull guard but Dancer won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Norberto Oneil. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Oneil is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Dancer is defending well for now.

Dancer misses with a head kick.
Norberto Oneil is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Dancer rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Oneil counters by moving into the clinch.

Oneil escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Oneil moves in looking to clinch but Dancer pushes him off.

Oneil looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Oneil is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Dancer wants to sweep here but Oneil controlling him for the moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Oneil with a poor takedown

and Dancer holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Oneil is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Dancer to keep the fight standing.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Oneil tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Dancer wants to break free but Oneil has control.
Dancer is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Dancer manages to break the clinch.
Oneil looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dancer is fending him off so far but Oneil persists. Nope, Dancer circles away and we're back to standing.
The fight stays on the outside here - Dancer looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Oneil on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Oneil tries to get out of the position.
Dancer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Oneil keeping moving, preventing Dancer from controlling successfully.
Oneil wants to sweep here but Dancer controlling him for the moment.
Oneil controls Dancer momentarily but Dancer frees himself.
Oneil preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jake Dancer hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Dancer misses with a hook. Oneil ducked under it nicely.
Norberto Oneil seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dancer keeps the fight on the outside.

Dancer gets tackled into the cage by Oneil. Oneil maintains the clinch.
Oneil prevents the takedown attempt.
Oneil leaning against his opponent.
Dancer drops down looking for an ankle pick but Oneil pulls his leg out and moves away.
Oneil throws a series of punches but Dancer avoids them all with ease.

Oneil drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Dancer is trying to control the position but Oneil postures up.
Dancer wants to stand up but Oneil is controlling him.
Oneil postures up and lands a big shot to Dancer's brow.

Dancer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Oneil doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oneil manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Dancer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Oneil defends it easily.

Oneil slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Dancer is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Oneil throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dancer works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Jake Dancer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Oneil stands up and waves to Dancer to follow him.
Norberto Oneil is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Oneil is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Dancer's half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Norberto Oneil.
Well Oneil has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
