PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Advice Mallard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bryan Lester (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Advice Mallard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Bryan Lester!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lester closes the distance and clinches.
Lester crunches a lovely knee into Mallard's ribcage.

Mallard lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Mallard is working for a kimura but Lester is defending it quite comfortably.
Lester is trying to stand back up but Mallard is controlling him

Lester tries to roll over but Mallard keeps him under control.

Mallard is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lester is just riding it out for now. Mallard eventually gives up the hold.

Mallard wants to work for an arm triangle but Lester is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Lester won't allow Mallard to pass to mount.

Lester felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Lester misses with a takedown attempt

Mallard seems to be working for a kimura but Lester defends the submission attempt.

Lester is pulling down on Mallard's head. It's preventing any offense from Mallard, at least for the moment.
Mallard wants to pass the guard but Lester is keeping the position.

Mallard tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mallard has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Lester tries to bench press Mallard off him but Mallard keeps the position.

Mallard thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Mallard is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lester is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Mallard wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Lester, who protects the arm well.
Lester tries to bench press Mallard off him but Mallard keeps the position.

Mallard tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Mallard working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Advice Mallard overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Lester struggling a bit here.

Mallard goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Lester has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Mallard but great work by Lester.
Mallard tries to improve position but can't.
Mallard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Lester advances to full mount.
Mallard regains half guard.
Lester is trying to control the action in half guard but Mallard is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Lester tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Mallard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

No joy there for Mallard, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mallard stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mallard wants it to stay on the feet.
Mallard looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Mallard shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Lester manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Mallard postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lester is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Mallard, into his guard.

Mallard is looking to cinch up a triangle. Lester throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Mallard's body to avoid the submission. Mallard has instead reached around Lester's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Mallard arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Advice Mallard!
Advice Mallard seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
