The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valdemes looks for a takedown but Alonso sprawls well.
Alonso lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Hector Valdemes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alonso throws a looping overhand right but Valdemes ducks down to avoid it.

Alonso has closed the distance and engaged Valdemes in a clinch.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Alonso wants to sweep here but Valdemes controlling him for the moment.
Alonso is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
