PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Seth Pope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Show Kang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Show Kang was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Show Kang!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Sosuke Kotani and Shirou Masuda.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kang tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pope sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kang somewhat.

Pope closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Kang wants to get back to his feet but Pope drags him back down.
Pope is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Kang's shoulder. That is not cool.
Kang tries to buck Pope off but Pope is having none of it.

Pope is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kang is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Pope in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Kang really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pope. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Pope is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Kang's shoulder. That is not cool.
Pope with the ground and pound but Kang regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Pope stops Kang from getting back to his feet.
Pope has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Pope throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Pope trying to mount his opponent but Kang defends it.
Well, if Pope is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Pope could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kang keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Kang is trying to control but Pope manages to pass to mount!
Pope tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Kang is desperately trying to improve his position but Pope has a good base and remains in mount.
Pope throwing strikes here but Kang is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Pope is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Pope gets a clinch.

Pope pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kang shoots for a takedown but Pope saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Pope shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kang is trying to defend but Pope finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Kang looks winded!
Pope looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kang is trying to control but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Seth Pope dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Kang tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pope swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kang is looking to clinch but Pope is avoiding it.
Kang will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

and Pope counters by clinching up.
Kang has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Pope after a bit of a struggle.

Pope gets control of Kang's arms and successfully pulls guard. Pope will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Kang wants to control from the top but Pope keeps moving.
Kang working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Kang scoring with punches to the head and body.
Pope looking for a sweep. Not yet Pope, not yet.
Pope is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
It looks like Pope is going to stand back up.

Kang pushes Pope off, looking to escape but Pope dives into side control. He's locked up a kimura now - that was fast! He's cranking on it and Kang is forced to tap! The fight is over!
