The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Heinonen throws a lazy right hand but Zotov sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Heinonen throws a jab but it's blocked by Zotov.
Heinonen misses with an uppercut
and Zotov counters with a thumping low kick.

Heinonen forces Zotov back against the cage and clinches.

Zotov pulls guard effortlessly.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Heinonen controlling from the top position.
Zotov looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Heinonen controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

We've been hearing good reports from Zotov's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Heinonen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Max Heinonen wasn't active enough on the ground.
Heinonen throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Zotov stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Heinonen drives through and clinches with Zotov against the cage.
Zotov tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Heinonen throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Heinonen tries to circle away but Zotov has him pinned against the cage.

Zotov pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Zotov fails in his attempt to clinch.
Nice straight punches there by Heinonen. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Heinonen.

Zotov catches Heinonen with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Zotov misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Maksim Zotov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Zotov throws a leg kick but Heinonen moved away.
Zotov needs to keep his hands up - Heinonen had a free shot at his head there.
Heinonen throws a shot from downtown. Zotov moves away and avoids it.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Zotov. Heinonen shrugs it off though.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Heinonen darts in and clinches Zotov up against the cage.
Heinonen blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Heinonen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Heinonen throws a looping overhand right but Zotov ducks down to avoid it.
Zotov takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Heinonen closes the distance and clinches.
Zotov misses with the head strike.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zotov has a couple of punches blocked by Heinonen.
Zotov misses with some punches.
Nice body punch from Zotov - that landed with a thud.
Zotov tries to pull guard but Heinonen won't allow it.

Zotov escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Zotov feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Heinonen's calf.
Zotov takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

It looks like Maksim Zotov has been cut.
Heinonen checks a leg kick.
A nice inside leg kick there by Zotov. That's going to slow Heinonen down.
Zotov throws a head kick but Heinonen moves out of range.

Heinonen lands a left and a right that send Zotov crashing to the mat, dazed. Heinonen thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Zotov is rocked!
Zotov slips a jab from Heinonen.
Oh Zotov is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Heinonen moves out of range of the leg kick from Zotov.
Zotov seems to have got his legs back now.
Zotov throws a leg kick that misses.

Heinonen cracks Zotov with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Zotov looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Heinonen finish him?
Zotov lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Heinonen misses with a looping left.
Heinonen looks to throw the jab but Zotov is out of range.
Zotov lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Heinonen walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Zotov checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Heinonen dances in with a quick combination. Zotov is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Heinonen snaps Zotov's head back. Zotov stumbles backwards against the cage. Heinonen steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Zotov's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Zotov just didn't come prepared.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Max Heinonen!
A relieved looking Max Heinonen thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
