PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Korbett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Korbett is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by 2pac - Fight Music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that James Korbett was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Anthony Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Korbett!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnson has managed to clinch.
Korbett is trying to push Johnson away but Johnson has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Korbett tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Korbett breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Johnson closes the distance and clinches up with Korbett, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes Korbett against the cage but Korbett circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Johnson swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Johnson doesn't manage to clinch there - Korbett circles away.
Korbett shoots in looking for a takedown but Johnson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Korbett's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Korbett stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Korbett wants it to stay on the feet.
Johnson tries for a takedown but Korbett sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anthony Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Korbett throws a nice looking combination but Johnson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Johnson moves into the clinch.

Korbett tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Johnson smiles and moves away.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Johnson is defended easily by Korbett.
Korbett stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Korbett wants it to stay on the feet.
Johnson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Korbett sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Johnson somewhat.

Korbett slaps away a takedown attempt from Johnson, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Johnson moves in looking to clinch but Korbett pushes him off.

Johnson closes the distance and pushes Korbett back into the cage.

No joy there for Johnson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Korbett counters with a nice double leg into side control. Johnson won't be happy with that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Johnson is looking to regain half guard here but Korbett keeps moving and retains side control.

Korbett tries to stand but Johnson is controlling his head.

Johnson is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Korbett off and has taken his back!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Korbett wants to get back to his feet.
Korbett wants to control his opponent's hands but Johnson gets his hands free.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Anthony Johnson will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Korbett's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Korbett tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Johnson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown but Korbett shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Korbett changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Johnson tries to avoid it but Korbett manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Johnson to the ground. Johnson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Anthony Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Johnson gets control of Korbett's arms and successfully pulls guard. Johnson will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Johnson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Korbett manages to get himself to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Johnson drops back looking for a leg! Korbett is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Korbett manages to kick Johnson off! Johnson jumps back into Korbett's guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Anthony Johnson will probably get the nod.

Horrible takedown by Korbett or perhaps it was just good defense by Johnson which made him look bad.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Anthony Johnson.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Johnson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
