Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chang Velez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nick Johnson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chang Velez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nick Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Frank Dennis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnson drives through with a takedown into guard.
Johnson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Velez's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Velez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Velez gets full guard.
Johnson trying to control the position from guard on top but Velez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Johnson slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Velez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Johnson lands a couple of elbows.
Velez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Johnson stands and steps away. Velez gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Johnson wants to control but Velez is keeping him busy.
Velez parries the strikes from Johnson easily there. Johnson is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Velez to escape.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Johnson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Velez did well to prevent Johnson getting side control.

Johnson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Velez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Johnson.

Velez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Velez is looking to stand up but Johnson isn't so interested in that idea.

Johnson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Velez haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Nick Johnson was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Velez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Velez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Velez goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Johnson rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Velez's guard! Nice work there by Johnson!

Velez wants to stand but Johnson is controlling the position.

Johnson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Johnson wants to stand but Velez has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Nick Johnson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Johnson rushes Velez and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Velez has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Johnson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Johnson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Johnson moves into the clinch successfully.

Velez seems keen to control Johnson's posture.

Johnson is pushing down on Velez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Velez is fighting to maintain full guard but Johnson has managed to sneak the leg through.
Velez wants to control but Johnson is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Johnson lands a nice short elbow.
Velez is staying active underneath Johnson, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Johnson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Velez pushes Johnson off looking to stand but Johnson dives back in and keeps control.
Johnson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Velez keeps working.

Velez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Nick Johnson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Johnson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
