PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vasyl Pupkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Figure (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Vasyl Pupkin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tommy Figure!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Radbod Blank and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Figure throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pupkin's waist but Pupkin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Figure off to one side.
Pupkin dives in and grabs Figure's left leg, looking for a takedown. Figure pushes down on Pupkin's head and hops out.
Pupkin throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Figure.


It looks like Tommy Figure has been cut.
An inside leg kick lands from Pupkin.
Figure goes for a double leg but Pupkin avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Pupkin continues to drive forward.
Figure working hard to break the clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pupkin managing to block the knees to the body from Figure.
Figure jumps guard but Pupkin turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Vasyl Pupkin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tommy Figure.
Figure has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Pupkin after a bit of a struggle.
Figure wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Pupkin with a knee to the head.
Figure creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Pupkin is looking to control Figure's arms but Figure gets an underhook and turns him. Now Pupkin has his back to the cage.

Pupkin manages to break the clinch.
Pupkin jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pupkin explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Figure looks winded!

Pupkin clinches.

Pupkin has Figure pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Pupkin pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Figure tumbling to the mat - Pupkin dives into Figure's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Pupkin passes Figure's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Pupkin stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Figure misses with a wild body shot.

Pupkin scores with a nice hook to the head.

Pupkin drags the fight down to the ground.
Pupkin is trying to control the position but Figure postures up.
Pupkin manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Figure manages to get himself to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pupkin stops Figure from standing up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Figure tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Pupkin won't allow Figure to get back to his feet.
Pupkin trying to control but Figure is working from the bottom.
Figure is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Figure really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pupkin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Tommy Figure was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Figure tries to clinch but Pupkin is having none of it.

Figure looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Figure working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Figure wants to control but Pupkin is keeping him busy.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Pupkin regains full guard. Nicely done.
Figure being controlled here momentarily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Figure would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vasyl Pupkin dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Tommy Figure's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Pupkin with a poor takedown

so Figure counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Figure content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Pupkin has locked up a guillotine! Pupkin's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Figure is holding on here and Pupkin must be using up a lot of energy. Figure has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Pupkin gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Vasyl Pupkin!
