PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Settimo Vjadenek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Settimo Vjadenek has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Settimo Vjadenek seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Settimo Vjadenek!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, David Jones!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Colin Fotheringham and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vjadenek will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Jones fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Vjadenek sprawls well initially but Jones persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Jones is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Vjadenek defends it well.
Vjadenek won't allow Jones to pass to mount.
Well, if Jones is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Vjadenek wants to improve his position but Jones is controlling well.

Jones lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Vjadenek is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Jones's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Jones's back!
Vjadenek is trying to stick to Jones's back but Jones is turning into Vjadenek. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Vjadenek's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Jones.
Vjadenek can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jones controls the pace.
Jones stands and throws Vjadenek's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Jones thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Vjadenek gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jones with a couple of short strikes.
Jones controlling the position easily from mount.
Jones lands a big elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Vjadenek throws a head kick that misses.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Vjadenek.
Settimo Vjadenek is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jones decides to stand back up. Jones steps back and let's Vjadenek get back to his feet.

and Jones counters with a nice double leg into guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Settimo Vjadenek. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jones is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Jones is working Vjadenek over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jones is looking for a kimura but Vjadenek is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jones to get the leverage.

It looks like Jones is going to stand back up.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Jones seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
David Jones has got the better of the ground game so far.
Jones tries to pass to full mount but Vjadenek defends it.

David Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Jones throws a solid leg kick but Vjadenek takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Jones.

It looks like David Jones has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jones shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Vjadenek napping and manages to drive through into side control!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

A lull in the action here as Jones stalls from top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by David Jones.
Vjadenek throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jones throws a push kick but Vjadenek slaps the foot to one side.
Vjadenek tries for a takedown but Jones circles away easily

and Jones counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Jones stays in close to Vjadenek's body and controls the position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Vjadenek is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jones is aware though and is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones landing some decent shots from guard.
Jones slips nicely into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Jones connects with a nice short shot to Vjadenek's temple.
Jones looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Settimo Vjadenek has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
David Jones is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by David Jones.

David Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
