PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cosmo Day (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dimitar Boev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Day comes into the arena with Pitbull - Hotel Room Service blaring out of the sound system. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Cosmo Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dimitar Boev!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boev dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Boev breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Boev clinches up with Day and pushes him back against the cage.
Day is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Boev gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Boev putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Day in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Boev pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Boev closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Boev manages to break the clinch.
The fighters circle momentarily. Boev darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Day clinches with his opponent.
Boev gets through Day's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Boev lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Boev lands a shot to the body.
Day is breathing heavily.
Day has Boev pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Boev manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Boev breaks the clinch.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Day on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Boev tries to work over Day's front leg with a kick but Day checks it.

Boev drives through with a takedown into guard.
Boev tries to free his leg and advance position but Day is retaining full guard.
Boev looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Dimitar Boev has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Boev rushes Day and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Day is trying to pull guard but Boev turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cosmo Day. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Boev's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Boev clinches up with Day and pushes him back against the cage.
Boev looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Boev escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Boev feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Boev really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Day. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Boev decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Day, up you get!
Day throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Boev clinches up with Day and pushes him back against the cage.

Boev manages to break the clinch.

Day tries to sprawl but Boev drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Boev looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Day with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Day keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Boev passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Day!
Boev controlling his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Boev fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Boev in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Boev tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Boev's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Day is bucking up trying to escape but Boev cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Boev breaks from Day's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Boev sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Boev seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Day is holding on tight.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dimitar Boev was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Day blocks a head kick by Boev.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Boev ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Boev gets a double leg takedown into Day's guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Boev's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dimitar Boev dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Boev feints and as Day raises his hands in defense, Boev changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Day wants to get back to his feet but Boev is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Boev slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Dimitar Boev.

Boev clinches with his opponent.
Day goes for a takedown attempt but Boev pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Day pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Boev connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Day shoots in and drives through. Boev sprawls well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Boev fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Day to the ground. Boev is now in Day's guard.

Boev stands up from Day's guard - Boev perhaps looking for a knockout.
Day misses with a looping right.

Boev moves into the clinch.

Boev breaks the clinch.
Day rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Boev moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Boev dodges the punch combination from Day.

Boev fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Day, pushing him back against the cage.
Day has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Day walks into a jab.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Boev looks for a takedown but Day sprawls well.

Boev rushes Day and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Boev jumps guard.

Boev had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Day defends it easily.
Day throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Boev works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Dimitar Boev has got the better of the ground game so far.
Day being controlled here momentarily.
Day won't allow Boev to sweep him here.

Boev looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dimitar Boev was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Boev drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Boev advances position into side control!

Boev thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Day tries to improve position but can't.

Boev looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Boev swings around for an armbar but Day sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Boev's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Day wanted to stand there but Boev had control of the position.
Boev seems keen to control Day's posture.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Boev had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Day defends it easily.
Boev looking to hit a scissor sweep but Day is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dimitar Boev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Boev rushes Day and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Boev has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Boev controlling the action here for a moment.

Boev pushes Day back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Day is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Boev rushes Day and presses him up against the cage.
Boev unloads a knee to the mid-section. Day lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Boev wants the takedown. Day is fighting it off but Boev persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Day's guard against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Boev seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Day can't keep his opponent in guard - Boev advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Well, if Boev is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Boev looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Boev seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Let's hope that Boev has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Dimitar Boev wasn't active enough on the ground.
Day looks to land a right hand but Boev moved out of range.

Boev drives through and clinches with Day against the cage.
Day tries for a takedown. No joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cosmo Day. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Boev swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Day takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Boev avoids the head kick by Day.
Day throws a series of punches but Boev avoids them all with ease.
Boev lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Boev lands an overhand right.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Dimitar Boev is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Boev lands a hook that snaps the head of Day backwards.
Day fails to pull guard.
A nice left hand lands by Boev.
Day is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Boev gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Boev content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Cosmo Day has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Boev ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Dimitar Boev comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Boev has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
