PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ishikawa Goemon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Williams Qautor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Goemon comes to the ring accompanied by The Beginning is the End. Qautor comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Sandstorm kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ishikawa Goemon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Williams Qautor!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yuuki Gou and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Qautor blocks a jab.
Horrible takedown by Qautor or perhaps it was just good defense by Goemon which made him look bad.

Goemon shoots in and gets a takedown into Qautor's guard.
Qautor seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Goemon content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Qautor is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Goemon is working Qautor over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Qautor has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Goemon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Qautor utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Qautor is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Qautor wants to control but Goemon is keeping him busy.
Qautor prevents Goemon from improving his position.
Qautor tries to pass to full mount but Goemon defends it.
Goemon wants to get back to full guard but Qautor has mounted him!
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Goemon has given up his back here.
Qautor tries to keep control of the position but Goemon is staying busy.
Goemon might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Goemon tries to escape but Qautor has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Qautor struggling to keep hold of the position.
Goemon rolls, trying to escape but Qautor keeps control of the position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Qautor is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Qautor just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Qautor is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Qautor is looking to control Goemon but Goemon is wriggling around and keeping busy.
I really don't envy Goemon right now.
Qautor tries to keep control of the position but Goemon is staying busy.
Goemon is in bad spot here.

Goemon really must keep his cool here. He's controlling one of Qautor's hands and whilst he does that, he's got a chance of escaping the position.

Goemon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Qautor on the ground.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Qautor throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Goemon defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Qautor's arms.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Williams Qautor will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Qautor tries to score a power double leg takedown but Goemon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Qautor somewhat.
Williams Qautor is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A telegraphed right hand from Goemon misses the target.
Ishikawa Goemon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Goemon looks to throw the jab but Qautor is out of range.
Goemon throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Qautor looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Qautor shoots in and drives through. Goemon sprawls well.
Qautor misses with a head kick.
Goemon feints a jab promting Qautor to slip. Goemon then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Qautor slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Goemon throws a nice looking combination but Qautor bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Qautor uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Goemon.
Goemon misses with an uppercut.

A looping hook to the body misses from Goemon. Qautor does a little dance to reset his feet.
Qautor uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Goemon.

Qautor moves into range and clinches up with Goemon.

Qautor has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Goemon uses from the top position.
Goemon working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Goemon is fighting to break Qautor's control of his arms but Qautor is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Qautor wriggles free and stands up.
Goemon lands a body shot.

Goemon missing with a left hand there. Qautor was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Goemon defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Qautor.
Ishikawa Goemon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Williams Qautor.
Qautor is breathing heavily.
Goemon misses the jab.
A combination from Qautor does no damage.
Goemon attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Qautor's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Goemon connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Qautor scrambles back to his feet.
Goemon jabs Qautor right on the nose. Qautor blinks but takes it well.
Goemon throws a lazy right hand but Qautor sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Qautor.
Goemon thows a left - swing and a miss!
Goemon lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Qautor ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Goemon moves away.

Qautor takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Goemon tries to clinch but Qautor is having none of it.
Goemon throws the left hand but Qautor avoids the punch easily.
Qautor closes this distance looking for a takedown but Goemon circles away.
Qautor ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Goemon throws an overhand right that lands on Qautor's shoulder, as Qautor tries to avoid the shot.
Goemon misses with a jab, cross combination.
A jab from Goemon finds it's way through Qautor's defenses.
Goemon blocks a head kick by Qautor.

Goemon looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Qautor is pressing down on Goemon's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Goemon is working Qautor over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Goemon throws a strike but Qautor rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Williams Qautor has got the better of the ground game so far.
Goemon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Qautor is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Goemon is trying to control the position from the bottom.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Qautor throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Goemon's waist but Goemon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Qautor off to one side.

Qautor throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Goemon.

Qautor uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Goemon.
Qautor looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Goemon is fending him off so far but Qautor persists. Nope, Goemon circles away and we're back to standing.
Goemon is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Qautor throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Goemon throws a solid leg kick but Qautor takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Goemon.
Qautor fails to land with a series of punches.
Qautor takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Qautor gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Qautor on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Goemon tries to clinch but Qautor is having none of it.
Qautor fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ishikawa Goemon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Williams Qautor.
Goemon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Qautor circles away quickly and effectively.
Ishikawa Goemon is winning the standup battle so far.
Goemon throws a looping overhand right but Qautor ducks down to avoid it.

Goemon throws a poor cross that misses

and Qautor counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Qautor.
Goemon drops down looking for an ankle pick but Qautor pulls his leg out and moves away.
Goemon's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Goemon duly obliges.
Goemon wants to slow Qautor down by chopping away at his legs.
Horrible takedown by Qautor or perhaps it was just good defense by Goemon which made him look bad.
Goemon will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Goemon shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Goemon showed some decent athleticism there.
Goemon looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Qautor with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Goemon looks to land a strike but Qautor avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Goemon throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Qautor works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Qautor avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Goemon got a little sloppy there for a moment and Qautor has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Goemon has managed to get both his arms back between Qautor's legs - danger averted.

Qautor escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Goemon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Qautor is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Goemon working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Qautor's head.
Qautor preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Qautor is on top in guard.
Goemon tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Goemon is adopting a defensive guard.
Qautor passes into half guard.
Goemon manages to get to full guard.
Qautor seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Goemon wants to hit a switch here but Qautor passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Goemon there!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
