PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cristobal Howe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Barnes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cristobal Howe looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Cristobal Howe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jake Barnes!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Colin Fotheringham and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barnes throws a lazy right hand but Howe sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Barnes dives in and grabs Howe's left leg, looking for a takedown. Howe pushes down on Barnes's head and hops out.

Barnes tries to break the clinch but Howe is controlling the position.

Howe's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Howe looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Barnes is fending him off so far but Howe persists. Nope, Barnes circles away and we're back to standing.
Barnes fails with an attempt to clinch.
Barnes gets off balance looking for a body kick
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Barnes throws a low kick but it's checked well by Howe.

Barnes closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Howe is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Barnes is defending well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cristobal Howe. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Barnes drags the fight down to the ground.
Barnes wants to get back to his feet but Howe is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Howe will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Howe really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Barnes is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Barnes manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Barnes is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Howe pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Howe pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

and Howe counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Howe.

That was a close round but I would say that Cristobal Howe will probably get the nod.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Cristobal Howe.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Howe, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
