PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robert Baron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kaneonuskatew Citlali (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Citlali is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Shadow of the Sun. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Robert Baron!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kaneonuskatew Citlali!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Sergei Dronov and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baron shoots in looking for a takedown. Citlali tries to sprawl out of it but Baron keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Citlali manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Citlali swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Baron tries to close the distance and clinch up but Citlali swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Citlali throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Citlali misses with a body kick.
Citlali has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Citlali throws a sloppy head kick and Baron moves out of range easily.

Baron drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Citlali is looking for a sweep.
Baron trying to control the action but Citlali is working from the bottom.

Baron tries for a kimura but Citlali is defending well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Baron's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The ground and pound from Baron seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Citlali tries to improve position but can't.
Baron trying to control the action but Citlali is working from the bottom.

We're going to have a standup here because Robert Baron wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Citlali stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Citlali wants it to stay on the feet.
A chopping leg kick lands by Citlali.

Citlali lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
A punch combination from Citlali misses.
A head kick by Baron misses
and Citlali counters with a nice low kick that buckles Baron's knee momentarily.
Baron dives in for a single leg takedown but Citlali sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robert Baron. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Baron tries to pull guard but Citlali forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Baron is looking to take this one to the mat.
Baron wants a takedown but no success here.
Baron trying to stall but Citlali improves his position.
Citlali stalling in the clinch but Baron improves position.
Citlali with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Citlali pushes Baron back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Baron is looking to break free of the clinch but Citlali has double underhooks.

Citlali lands an uppercut.
Baron is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Citlali gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Baron tries for a takedown. No joy.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Citlali throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Citlali tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
I was talking to Baron's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
A head punch on the inside from Citlali fails to land.
Citlali looking to stall.

Baron lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Baron tries to pass to full mount but Citlali defends it.
Baron seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Citlali does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Citlali moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Robert Baron will probably get the nod.
That's time! Baron's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Baron is defended easily by Citlali.
Baron takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Baron avoids the head kick by Citlali.

Citlali gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Baron postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Citlali keeping moving, preventing Baron from controlling successfully.

Robert Baron has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Baron drops his hands momentarily and Citlali takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Citlali thuds a left hand into Baron's body.
Citlali misses with the combination.
Baron shoots for a double leg takedown but Citlali sprawls well. He's pushed Baron's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kaneonuskatew Citlali seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Citlali keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Citlali lands a jab to the head.
Citlali connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Citlali scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Baron moves in looking to clinch but Citlali pushes him off.
Baron doesn't manage to clinch there - Citlali circles away.
Citlali throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Baron tries to close the distance and clinch but Citlali swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Baron dives in and grabs Citlali's left leg, looking for a takedown. Citlali pushes down on Baron's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robert Baron. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Citlali lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Citlali lands a leg kick that knocks Baron off balance momentarily.
Baron looks to land a combination. Citlali sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Baron tries to score a power double leg takedown but Citlali sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Baron somewhat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Baron takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Baron tries to clinch there but Citlali circles away.

Citlali throws a one two combo.
Baron throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Baron tries to close the distance and clinch but Citlali swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Citlali chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Citlali thuds his shin into the meat of Baron's side.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Citlali scores with a jab. Baron acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

A head kick from Citlali lands but Baron takes it in his stride.
Citlali connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.


Baron is rocked!

Citlali feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Barons jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Oh Baron is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Citlali throws a monster overhand right that drops Baron! Citlali follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:10 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kaneonuskatew Citlali!
