PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andy Norman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andy Greg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Andy Norman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Andy Greg!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Daniel Bishop and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice body kick there by Norman.
Greg looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Norman is fending him off so far but Greg persists. Nope, Norman circles away and we're back to standing.
Greg shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Norman defends it nicely.
Greg shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Andy Norman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andy Greg.
Norman throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Greg throws a right and a left that Norman avoids nicely.
Norman moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Greg fails with an attempt to clinch.
Norman misses with the combination.
Norman dives in for a single leg takedown but Greg sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Greg jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Norman walks away with a smile on his face. Greg gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Greg displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Norman.

Norman closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Norman gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Greg.
Greg drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Greg drops down looking for an ankle pick but Norman pulls his leg out and moves away.
Greg looks winded!
Greg shoots in for a takedown but Norman shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Greg shoots for a double leg takedown but Norman sprawls well. He's pushed Greg's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Norman shoots in looking for a takedown but Greg manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Norman's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Norman's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Norman dives in for a single leg takedown but Greg sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Norman ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Norman no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Norman keeping moving, preventing Greg from controlling successfully.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Norman is on top in guard.
Norman passes Greg's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Norman keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Greg avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Norman.
Norman is taking a breather. Greg says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Norman's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Andy Norman wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Norman ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Norman fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Greg displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Norman.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Norman shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Greg fails with the takedown.
Norman closes this distance looking for a takedown but Greg circles away.
Norman throws a front kick that sends Greg stumbling back into the cage.
Andy Norman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Norman looking to score a takedown here. Greg is defending well but Norman drives through and ends up in Greg's guard.
Norman slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Greg is breathing heavily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Greg wants to stand but Norman is controlling the position.

Norman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Norman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Norman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Greg changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Norman tries to avoid it but Greg manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Norman to the ground. Norman escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Norman shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Greg as he avoids it easily.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Greg slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Greg got a little sloppy there for a moment and Norman has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Greg has managed to get both his arms back between Norman's legs - danger averted.

Norman lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Greg!

Greg covers up after that shot from Norman.
Norman controlling well, preventing Greg from escaping the position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Norman somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
Greg avoids the strikes from Norman.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Greg tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Norman defends well and Greg ends up having to push Norman into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Norman tries a head kick but it misses.

Norman drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Greg tries to improve position but can't.
Norman lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Greg down.
Norman looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Greg is avoiding damage well.

Norman stands up.

Norman clinches up against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Norman breaks from the clinch.
Norman shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Greg as he jumps to the side.
Norman shoots for a double leg takedown but Greg sprawls well. He's pushed Norman's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Norman avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Greg bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Norman's head backwards.
Greg leaves Norman with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Nice takedown defense from Greg. No joy for Norman on that attempt.

Norman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Greg pinned against the cage. Greg gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Norman closes this distance looking for a takedown but Greg circles away.
Greg is looking to clinch.
Norman changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Greg tries to avoid it but Norman manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Greg to the ground. Greg escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Greg closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Norman quickly recovers to half guard.

Greg lands a nice forearm strike.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Greg tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Andy Norman.
Well Norman has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
