PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alex Rhys (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tim Justice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alex Rhys!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tim Justice!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Joseph Jones and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rhys falls off balance throwing a combination
and Justice counters with a big head kick but Rhys shrugs it off.
Rhys changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Justice tries to avoid it but Rhys manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Justice to the ground. Justice escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Rhys throws a head kick that misses.
Rhys has his takedown stuffed
and Justice counters with a head kick. That will keep Rhys thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Rhys fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Rhys. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rhys tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Rhys shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Justice's guard.

Rhys tries to stand but Justice is controlling from the bottom.
Rhys content to stall in guard here.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Alex Rhys just wasn't active enough.
Rhys misses with a takedown
and Justice counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Rhys is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Rhys throws a push kick but Justice slaps the foot to one side.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rhys dives in and grabs Justice's left leg, looking for a takedown. Justice pushes down on Rhys's head and hops out.
Justice circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rhys shoots in but no luck this time.
Rhys is breathing heavily.
Rhys tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Rhys wants to clinch.

Rhys pushes Justice up against the cage in a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rhys is trying to break free.
Justice pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Justice throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Rhys ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Rhys no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Rhys is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Justice is looking to stand up but Rhys won't let him.
Rhys working a defensive guard here.
Justice has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rhys is proving hard to escape from.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Justice is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Alex Rhys just wasn't active enough.

Justice gets tackled into the cage by Rhys. Rhys maintains the clinch.
Justice has Rhys pressed against the cage, preventing Rhys from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Rhys works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Rhys slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rhys content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rhys advances nicely into full mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Rhys dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Rhys darts in and clinches Justice up against the cage.
Rhys drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Justice gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Rhys blocks an elbow strike.
Rhys tries to pull guard but Justice forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Justice prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Rhys. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rhys is looking to break free of the clinch but Justice has double underhooks.

Rhys manages to pull guard.
Justice prevents Rhys from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Justice would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Justice has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Rhys to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Justice is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Rhys pulls down on the head and he's put Justice to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Alex Rhys!
