Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Barrett Hanson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying James's choice of entrance music: Kanye West. Jon James is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Barrett Hanson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jon James!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

James gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Hanson with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Hanson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hanson is trying to drag James to the mat but James just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

James pulls guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Hanson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hanson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
James trying to keep a closed guard but Hanson is proving a slippery customer.
Hanson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
James is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and James counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
James seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Let's hope that James has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
James keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
James throws a leg kick which misses Hanson's front leg but catches the back leg as Hanson tries to avoid it.
Hanson tries to clinch but James is having none of it.
James pulls out of a head kick attempt.
James circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hanson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and James counters with a big head kick but Hanson shrugs it off.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Barrett Hanson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hanson is breathing heavily.

Hanson shoots in and drives through. James sprawls well.

James shoots in and bounces Hanson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
James stands up over Hanson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

James decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hanson, up you get!

James closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Hanson quickly recovers to half guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

James wants to control from the top but Hanson keeps moving.
Hanson is trying to control the position but James postures up.

James gets to his feet. Hanson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Hanson moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Jon James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
James leaves Hanson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
James throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.


Hanson is rocked!


It looks like Barrett Hanson has been cut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
James misses with a jab, cross combination.
James throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hanson's waist but Hanson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing James off to one side.

James looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hanson is fending him off so far but James persists. Nope, Hanson circles away and we're back to standing.
Hanson swats away the attempt to clinch by James.
Hanson shoots in for a takedown but James shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
James shoots in but no luck this time.
Barrett Hanson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon James.
Hanson shoots for a takedown but James saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hanson takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

James darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

James is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hanson defends it well.

James is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Hanson misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Hanson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. James is working away from the top position though.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

James looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Hanson flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
James prevents Hanson from improving his position.
James seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hanson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Hanson wants to get back to full guard.
James controlling the action here.

James stands up and beckons Hanson to join him on the feet.

James fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hanson, pushing him back against the cage.
Hanson wants to break the clinch but can't.
James lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Hanson.

James's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

James has closed the distance and engaged Hanson in a clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

James wants the takedown. Hanson is fighting it off but James persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Hanson's guard against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
James throws a big elbow that misses.

Jon James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



James drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

James is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Hanson keeping moving, preventing James from controlling successfully.
Hanson controls James momentarily but James frees himself.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

James is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
James has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

James got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hanson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, James has managed to get both his arms back between Hanson's legs - danger averted.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jon James.

James clinches up with Hanson and pushes him back against the cage.
Hanson wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Hanson is looking for a takedown up against the cage. James gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

James breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
No luck with that takedown attempt from James.
James goes for a double leg but Hanson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hanson continues to drive forward.
Hanson fails to pull the fight into his guard.
James jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hanson walks away with a smile on his face. James gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Hanson slaps away a takedown attempt from James, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Hanson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but James paws at him with a jab and circles away.

James has hold of one of Hanson's legs. Hanson is fighting the takedown attempt but James gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Jon James comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well James has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Jon James tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
