The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nation shoots in but Santos avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Santos looks for the body kick but Nation saw that one coming.
Nation shoots in for a double leg but Santos sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Santos.
Nation shoots in looking for a takedown. Santos tries to sprawl out of it but Nation keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Santos manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Nation's coach down at Choppy's School Of Hard Knocks was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Nation's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Santos throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Nation's waist but Nation gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Santos off to one side.
Nation closes this distance looking for a takedown but Santos circles away.

Santos throws a solid leg kick but Nation takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Santos.
Nation just misses with a punch to the body.
Nation has a takedown stuffed.
Nation changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Santos tries to avoid it but Nation manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Santos to the ground. Santos escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Santos tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nation sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Santos somewhat.
Santos shoots in but no luck this time.

and Santos counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Santos.

Nation escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Santos fails with a takedown attempt.

Nation shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Santos might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nation looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Santos with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Santos wants to get back to full guard but Nation has mounted him!
Nation can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Santos is looking to escape.
Santos is in all sorts of trouble here.

Nation gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Nation takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Santos ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Nation moves away.

Nation tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Santos paws at him with a jab and circles away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Santos enables Nation to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Santos manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Nation got a little sloppy there for a moment and Santos has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nation has managed to get both his arms back between Santos's legs - danger averted.
Nation wanted to stand there but Santos had control of the position.

Nation connects with a couple of short punches.
Nation must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

It looks like Samuel Santos has been cut.

Nation closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Nation seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Santos does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Santos has hold of Nation's hands but Nation slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Santos reaches up to try and control the position but Nation seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Santos rolls and tries to escape and now Nation has his back!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nation wants to control but Santos is keeping busy.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Santos pushes Nation away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Nation gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Santos is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Nation is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well Nation has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
