PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paul Maul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hannibal King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul Maul!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hannibal King!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Jonathan Paton and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maul rushes King and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
King wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Maul has him pressed against the cage.
Maul stalling the fight.
Maul keeps control of King as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
King swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Maul blocks a body shot from King.
Maul blocking some punches.

Maul breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
King shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
We've been told by Maul's head coaches at Pirate's Nest that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from King.
Maul lands a jab to King's midsection.
King takes one to the side of the head.
Maul feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Kings jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
King tries for a takedown but Maul sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Paul Maul has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hannibal King.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Maul scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

King bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

King wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Maul, who protects the arm well.

King is trying to get an arm triangle but Maul is defending well.

King is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Maul is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

King stands up.

Maul takes the fight into the clinch.
Maul lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maul blocks a body shot from King.
King throws a punch but it's blocked by Maul.
Maul blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
King misses with a punch to the body.
King misses with a short punch on the inside.
King can't break the clinch.
King misses with a shot to the kidneys.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Maul pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
King fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Maul avoids it really well and circles away.
King changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Maul tries to avoid it but King manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Maul to the ground. Maul escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Maul closes the distance and pushes King back into the cage.
King is trying to break the clinch but Maul has him pressed against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
King is trying to break the clinch but Maul has him pressed against the cage.
Maul blocks an uppercut.
King misses with a punch to the body.
Maul stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
King wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Maul prevents a body shot from King.
Maul just leaning against King, taking a breather.
King misses with some punches.
Maul makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Maul works on King's body with a couple of short punches.
Maul lands a hook to the side of the head.
King wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Maul lands a hook that snaps the head of King backwards.
King misses with a short punch on the inside.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
King misses with a shot to the kidneys.
King has a couple of punches blocked by Maul.
King wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Maul has King pressed against the cage, preventing King from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Maul lands an uppercut.
Maul works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Maul creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
A head punch on the inside from King fails to land.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Maul breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
King's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Maul connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! King scrambles back to his feet.
Maul with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Maul keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Paul Maul will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Maul throws a jab when King was well out of range.

Maul clinches.
King misses with a short punch on the inside.
Maul keeps the fight in the clinch, despite King's efforts to push away.
Maul dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
King tries a body shot but Maul blocks it.
A short body shot lands from Maul as the two fighters clinch.
Maul scores with a nice hook to the head.
Maul blocks a body shot from King.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Maul.

Maul pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
King shoots in for a takedown but Maul shows good takedown defense.
The fighters circle momentarily. Maul darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King tries to clinch but Maul moves out of range.
King shoots for a double leg takedown but Maul sprawls well. He's pushed King's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
King uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Maul has time to react.
Paul Maul is winning the standup battle so far.
Decent striking displayed by Maul there.


It looks like Hannibal King has been cut.
King closes this distance looking for a takedown but Maul circles away.
Paul Maul has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hannibal King.
King takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Maul throws an overhand right that drops King like a sack of potatoes! Maul dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Paul Maul!
