The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Porter keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Sterling definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Porter fails with a takedown attempt. Sterling leaves Porter with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Sterling scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Porter manages to work his way to half guard, despite Sterling's best efforts. Sterling is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Sterling is working for a submission of some sort.
Porter is trying to stand.
Porter works his way to full guard. Good work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sterling tries to free his leg and advance position but Porter is retaining full guard. Sterling is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Sterling pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Porter is keeping the position for now. Sterling is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Porter is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Porter has escaped and now he's on top! Sterling keeping moving, preventing Porter from controlling successfully. Porter is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Porter drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Porter as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Sterling screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Porter! Nice submission victory there!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Max Porter! After winning the bout, Max Porter thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
