PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rodney Poper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bennie Cane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bennie Cane will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rodney Poper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bennie Cane!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Summer Carpenter and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Poper defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Cane.
Poper shoots in looking for a takedown. Cane tries to sprawl out of it but Poper keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cane manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Cane gets the takedown into side control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Cane controls the position from side control.
Cane's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Cane is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Poper tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cane wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Cane wants to control but Poper is keeping him busy.
Poper on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Poper tries to get out of the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cane working away.
Cane fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Cane wants to lay and pray for a moment but Poper keeps working.
Poper is trying to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cane taking a breather here.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Bennie Cane.
Poper moves in looking to clinch but Cane pushes him off.
Bennie Cane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cane throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Cane darts in trying to clinch
and Poper counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Cane moves out of range as Poper throws a body kick.
Poper motions for Cane to come forward. Poper throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Cane shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Poper pinned against the cage. Poper gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Cane takes the fight into the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Poper is trying to trip Cane. He has hold of a leg but Cane is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Poper persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Cane is controlling Poper's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Poper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cane swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Poper throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Poper postures up in Cane's guard and throws a big left but Cane blocks it.
Cane bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Poper's guard.
Cane looking to sit in guard and control but Poper gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Poper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cane swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Poper stands and throws Cane's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Poper trying to control the position but Cane is working away.
Poper lands some shots froms side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Poper tries to advance to mount but can't.
Cane struggling a bit here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The ground and pound from Poper seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Poper creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Cane sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Bennie Cane will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Poper fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cane manages to avoid it.
Cane fails to land the takedown.
An inside leg kick lands from Cane.
Cane tries to clinch up.
Cane looks for a takedown but Poper sprawls well.
Cane closes the distance and clinches up with Poper, looking for a takedown. Cane pushes Poper against the cage but Poper circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Rodney Poper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bennie Cane.
Poper is trying hard to land a takedown here. Cane sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
No luck for Poper with that takedown attempt.
Cane has a takedown stuffed.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Poper closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Cane quickly recovers to half guard.
Poper trying to control the action but Cane is working from the bottom.
Poper has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cane wants to control but Poper is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Poper scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Cane blocking the ground and pound attempt from Poper.
Cane is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Poper scores with a couple of nice shots.
Cane keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Cane is not content to let Poper control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Poper thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cane's head.
Poper is trying to control. Cane wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Cane is looking to control Poper's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Cane avoid being mounted?

Poper is working for a submission of some sort.
Cane is in trouble now - Poper has advanced to mount!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cane tries to lock up and control but Poper gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Poper prevents Cane from getting the reversal.
Poper thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Cane is wriggling around trying to escape.
Poper lands with some strikes.
Poper landing punches.


Cane is rocked!
Poper landing punches.
Cane is still in real trouble! Can Poper finish him?
Cane takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Poper's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rodney Poper!
