PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mr Kuk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Amigo Cerveza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mr Kuk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Amigo Cerveza!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cerveza tries a head kick but it misses.
Amigo Cerveza seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cerveza takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Kuk lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Kuk shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cerveza pinned against the cage. Cerveza gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kuk throws a shot from downtown. Cerveza moves away and avoids it.
No luck for Cerveza with that takedown attempt.

Cerveza decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Kuk is breathing heavily.
Cerveza is pressing down on Kuk's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kuk is holding on for now.

Cerveza frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Cerveza controlling his opponent.
Kuk keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Cerveza sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Cerveza is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Kuk can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Kuk is bucking up trying to escape but Cerveza cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Let's hope that Cerveza has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Cerveza's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Despite being in the dominant position, Amigo Cerveza just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kuk takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Cerveza feints and as Kuk raises his hands in defense, Cerveza changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Kuk not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kuk wants to sweep but no luck.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cerveza is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Cerveza stands and steps away. Kuk gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Cerveza throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Cerveza scores with a three punch combo!
Cerveza goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Cerveza gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Kuk throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Amigo Cerveza dominated that round.
That's time! Kuk's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Cerveza misses with a takedown attempt

and Kuk counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Kuk is keen to just control but Cerveza is a slippery customer.
Kuk prevents Cerveza from standing back up.
Cerveza controlling the position well.
Cerveza is looking to improve his position.
Cerveza manages to get to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kuk trying to control but Cerveza is working from the bottom.

Kuk wants to get up but he can't break Cerveza's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Cerveza looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Cerveza wants to sweep here but Kuk controlling him for the moment.
Cerveza keeping moving, preventing Kuk from controlling successfully.
Kuk looking to sit in guard and control but Cerveza gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Cerveza is stalling in the full guard.
Kuk trying to keep a closed guard but Cerveza is proving a slippery customer.
Cerveza sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Cerveza content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kuk has an active guard here but Cerveza has managed to pass into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cerveza working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kuk tries to roll over but Cerveza keeps him under control.
Kuk moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Cerveza controlling from the top position.
Cerveza is in close to Kuk's body, working some short punches and elbows.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mr Kuk will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Cerveza feints and as Kuk raises his hands in defense, Cerveza changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kuk is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kuk can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Cerveza controls the pace.
Cerveza wants to control from the top but Kuk keeps moving.
Amigo Cerveza has got the better of the ground game so far.

Kuk thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Cerveza to regain full guard.

Cerveza looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Cerveza manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kuk manages to get himself to full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cerveza wants to control from the top but Kuk keeps moving.

Cerveza not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Kuk is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Kuk tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kuk wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Cerveza manages to pass to side control.
Well, if Cerveza is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kuk wants to control but Cerveza is keeping busy.
Cerveza prevents Kuk from improving his position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Cerveza wants to pass to mount but Kuk is defending the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Amigo Cerveza comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Cerveza has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
