PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brian Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elmo Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Elmo Walker!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walker wants to clinch but Reed slips to the side

and Reed counters with a nice double leg into side control. Walker won't be happy with that.
Walker prevents Reed from moving into mount.
Walker is trying to escape the position but Reed is controlling the position.
Reed tries to stand but Walker controls the position and pulls Reed into his guard.
Reed controlling from the top position.

Brian Reed has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Reed decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Reed is taking a breather. Walker says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Reed lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Reed wants to stand up but Walker has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Walker is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Reed slows the pace down in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Reed takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Reed sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Reed prevents Walker from standing back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Reed seems to be working for a kimura but Walker defends the submission attempt.
Reed seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Walker manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Reed closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Reed wants to free his trapped foot but Walker is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Reed tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Walker.

Reed trying to control the pace.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Walker is trying to control but Reed passes into side control!
Walker trying to remain calm as Reed controls from the top position.
Reed tries to advance to mount but can't.
Walker is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Reed lands some shots froms side control.
Reed working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Reed controlling the position.

Reed tries for a kimura but Walker is defending well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Reed is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Walker knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Walker lands with a kick to the temple. Reed shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Walker gets caught napping as Reed dives in and scores a takedown. Walker manages to retain guard.
Reed sitting in guard here, content to control.
Reed stands and throws Walker's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Reed decides to stand back up. Reed steps back and let's Walker get back to his feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Walker.

Reed closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Walker to the mat! Walker manages to get full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Reed controls from within his opponent's guard.

Reed working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Reed is pushing down on Walker's leg trying to pass to half guard. Walker is fighting to maintain full guard but Reed has managed to sneak the leg through.
Reed landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Reed is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Reed keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Reed stops Walker from getting back to his feet.
Reed content to control rather than advance.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Brian Reed wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Walker gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Walker is breathing heavily.

Walker can't keep his opponent in guard - Reed advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Reed lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Brian Reed overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Reed performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Reed works his way into side control.
Walker is trying to escape the position but Reed is controlling the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Reed tries to move into full mount but can't pass Walker's legs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Reed is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Walker can do to turn this around?
Walker is trying to control but can't.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reed has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Reed winds up and cracks Walker with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Walker wants to improve his position but Reed is controlling well.
Reed with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Brian Reed wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Reed circles away from the clinch attempt.
Reed avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Walker fails in his attempt to clinch.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Walker!

Walker tries to close the distance and clinch up but Reed swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Reed scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Walker takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Walker is looking for a sweep.
Reed has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Walker is trying desperately to improve position.

Reed has hold of Walker's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Walker manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Reed takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Walker taking shots to the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reed lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Reed working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Walker is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Reed unloading with bombs!

Reed swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Walker is now in Reed's guard. A big mistake from Reed there, giving up the dominant position!
Reed is adopting a defensive guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Walker won't allow Reed to sweep him here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brian Reed showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Reed, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
