PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Don Geronimo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Geronimo comes to the cage accompanied by "War," by Edwin Starr. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Don Geronimo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jack Scott!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Edson Gomes and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scott looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Geronimo is fending him off so far but Scott persists. Nope, Geronimo circles away and we're back to standing.
Some wild striking there from Scott.
Scott moves away from the strike by Geronimo.
Scott loads up on a big right hand but Geronimo slips the punch.
Geronimo throws a sloppy head kick and Scott moves out of range easily.
Scott closes the distance and clinches up with Geronimo, looking for a takedown. Scott pushes Geronimo against the cage but Geronimo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Geronimo throws a shot to the body.
Scott looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Don Geronimo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Scott.
A telegraphed right hand from Geronimo misses the target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Scott shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Geronimo's guard.
Geronimo wants to stand up but Scott is controlling him.
Scott tries to free his leg and advance position but Geronimo is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Scott throws a strike but Geronimo rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Scott throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Scott trying to keep a closed guard but Geronimo is proving a slippery customer.

Scott is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Geronimo won't allow Scott to sweep him here.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Scott is trying to control the position but Geronimo postures up.

Geronimo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Scott looking to hit a scissor sweep but Geronimo is one step ahead there.

Geronimo gets to his feet. Scott looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Scott.
Geronimo looks to throw the jab but Scott is out of range.


It looks like Jack Scott has been cut.
Horrible takedown by Scott or perhaps it was just good defense by Geronimo which made him look bad.
Scott looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Geronimo is fending him off so far but Scott persists. Nope, Geronimo circles away and we're back to standing.
Scott looks gassed!
Scott misses with a hook.
Scott shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Geronimo pinned against the cage. Geronimo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Scott on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Geronimo. Geronimo obviously looking to wear him down.

Geronimo lands a body shot.
Geronimo slips a jab from Scott.
Scott throws a hook but Geronimo avoids it easily.
A big left from Scott misses.
Jack Scott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Scott shoots in for a takedown but Geronimo shows good takedown defense.
Geronimo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Scott moves away.
Geronimo throws a one two combo.


Scott is rocked!
Don Geronimo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Scott shoots in and drives through. Geronimo sprawls well.
Scott takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Scott is still on wobbly legs! Can Geronimo finish him?
Scott throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Geronimo's waist but Geronimo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Scott off to one side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Don Geronimo dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jack Scott's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Scott with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Geronimo to score with a decent uppercut.
Scott bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Scott closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Scott lands in his opponent's guard.
Scott seems to have recovered his senses.

Geronimo pushes Scott off and gets back to his feet.
Scott falls off balance throwing a combination
and Geronimo counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Geronimo missing with a left hand there. Scott was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Scott looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Scott is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Scott is breathing heavily.

Geronimo is trying to stand.
Scott missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Scott is looking to pass Geronimo's guard but actually Geronimo recovers to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Geronimo keeping moving, preventing Scott from controlling successfully.
Scott looking to pass the guard.
Scott stands and throws Geronimo's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Scott tries to move into full mount but can't pass Geronimo's legs.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Geronimo wants to get back to his feet but Scott drags him back down.
Scott trying to control the action but Geronimo is working from the bottom.
Scott laying and praying for a moment but Geronimo takes advantage and regains half guard.

Scott is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Geronimo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Scott wants to lay and pray for a moment but Geronimo keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jack Scott will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Jack Scott's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Scott misses with a leg kick
and Geronimo counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
A chopping leg kick lands by Scott.
Geronimo throws a push kick but Scott slaps the foot to one side.
Scott lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Scott.
Geronimo loads up on a big right hand but Scott slips the punch.
Scott showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Geronimo.

Scott fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Geronimo sprawls well initially but Scott persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Scott is stalling here. Geronimo is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Scott seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Geronimo has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Scott is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Scott tries to roll over but Geronimo keeps him under control.
Scott is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Geronimo jumps into side control!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Scott tries to control but Geronimo manages to take his back.
Geronimo is looking to control Scott but Scott is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Scott tries to roll but Geronimo sticks to his back.
Scott tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Scott tries to reverse the position but Geronimo maintains control.
Geronimo lands with some strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Geronimo working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Scott is working to get back to half guard.
Scott tries to hold on but Geronimo pushes him away.
Scott can't escape the position.
Scott slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Scott moves into full guard.

Scott has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Geronimo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Geronimo wants to stand but Scott is controlling his posture from full guard.
Scott is looking to sweep but instead, Geronimo has passed into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jack Scott comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Scott has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
