PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ken Dietrich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lane Rivers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dietrich comes to the cage accompanied by The presets. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ken Dietrich!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lane Rivers!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Vladimir Khabensky and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivers throws a shot to the body.
Dietrich stuffs the takedown.

Dietrich gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Rivers postures up.

Dietrich is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Dietrich is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rivers is aware though and is defending well.

Rivers stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Rivers closes the distance and clinches up with Dietrich, looking for a takedown. Rivers pushes Dietrich against the cage but Dietrich circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Rivers rushes Dietrich and presses him up against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rivers jumps guard.
Dietrich content to stall in guard here.

Rivers is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Dietrich is aware though and is defending well.
Dietrich not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Dietrich seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Rivers for as long as he can get away with.
Dietrich's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ken Dietrich wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Dietrich throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Dietrich goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Dietrich leaves Rivers with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ken Dietrich has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lane Rivers.
Dietrich takes a shot right to the bread basket.

Dietrich drives through and clinches with Rivers against the cage.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rivers.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dietrich won't allow Rivers to sweep him here.

Dietrich is fighting to break Rivers's control of his arms but Rivers is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Rivers controls Dietrich momentarily but Dietrich frees himself.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Lane Rivers wasn't active enough on the ground.
Dietrich takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Dietrich misses with a few strikes there.
Dietrich shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rivers but Rivers pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Dietrich fails with a takedown attempt.
Rivers fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dietrich avoids it really well and circles away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rivers defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Dietrich.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Lane Rivers will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Dietrich counters with a nice kick to the body.
Rivers throws a body kick that misses.
Dietrich is looking to clinch.
Dietrich throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rivers's waist but Rivers gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dietrich off to one side.
Dietrich keeps the fight on the outside.

Rivers tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Dietrich manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Nice sprawl there from Dietrich as Rivers shoots in.

Dietrich feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Rivers looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dietrich is one step ahead there.
Dietrich passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Dietrich is looking to take a break and control but Rivers is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rivers is trying to improve his position.

Ken Dietrich overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rivers tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Dietrich wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Dietrich looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Dietrich wants to control but Rivers is keeping him busy.

Dietrich prevents Rivers from escaping the position.

Dietrich decides to stand back up. Dietrich steps back and let's Rivers get back to his feet.
Dietrich shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rivers as he avoids it easily.
Rivers shoots in for a double leg but Dietrich sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Rivers shoots in for a takedown but Dietrich shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Dietrich moves out of range of the body kick.
Dietrich lands a nice leg kick that just misses Rivers's sensitive parts.
Dietrich stuffs the takedown.
Dietrich pushes Rivers away with a front kick.

Dietrich shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rivers as he jumps to the side.
Dietrich misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Dietrich wants to clinch up but Rivers keeps it at a distance.

Dietrich closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rivers gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Rivers kicks off Dietrich and gets to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dietrich fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Dietrich pushes Rivers away with a front kick.
Dietrich is looking to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Dietrich dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Dietrich will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Dietrich connects with a leg kick. Rivers looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Dietrich closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rivers circles away.

Rivers moves into the clinch.

Rivers tries to circle away but Dietrich has him pinned against the cage.
Rivers is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Rivers working hard to break the clinch.
Rivers wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Dietrich has him pressed against the cage.
Rivers wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Rivers is looking for a takedown.
Dietrich trying to control the position but instead, Rivers has worked for underhooks and has pushed Dietrich into the cage.
Rivers just leaning against Dietrich, taking a breather.
Dietrich is trying to pull guard but Rivers turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Rivers tries to pull guard but Dietrich holds him up against the cage and eventually Rivers drops back down to his feet.

Dietrich manages to break the clinch.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Dietrich.
Rivers dodges the ground and pound from Dietrich.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dietrich tries to advance to mount but can't.
Rivers looks to move to half guard but instead Dietrich has passed into mount! Damn!
Rivers can't escape the position.
Rivers wants to control but Dietrich is having none of it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dietrich pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ken Dietrich showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Dietrich has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
