PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joe Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Duck Rhodes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rhodes has chosen I want to break free as his entrance music. Joe Miller is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Duck Rhodes!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rhodes swats away the attempt to clinch by Miller.
Miller cracks Rhodes with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Miller - that will leave a mark!
Rhodes fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Miller shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rhodes as he jumps to the side.
Miller pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Miller fails with a takedown attempt.

Rhodes scores with a takedown into Miller's guard.
Rhodes should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Rhodes controls from within his opponent's guard.

Rhodes postures up in Miller's guard and throws a big left but Miller blocks it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Miller can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rhodes controls the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Duck Rhodes was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Rhodes shoots for a takedown but Miller saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Rhodes fails with a takedown attempt.
Joe Miller has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Duck Rhodes.

Rhodes moves into range and clinches up with Miller.

Miller scores a nice knee to the body.
Miller utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

Rhodes works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Rhodes not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
It looks like Rhodes might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Duck Rhodes wasn't active enough on the ground.
No luck for Miller with that takedown attempt.

Rhodes slaps away a takedown attempt from Miller, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Miller blocks a head kick by Rhodes.
Rhodes shoots for a double leg takedown but Miller sprawls well. He's pushed Rhodes's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Miller connects with a nasty looking knee right to Rhodes's face.


It looks like Duck Rhodes has been cut.
Miller tries to break free but Rhodes pushes him back against the cage.
Miller lands a nice knee to the body.
Rhodes keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Miller's efforts to push away.
Miller gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Rhodes.

Miller's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Miller tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rhodes paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Miller closes the distance but Rhodes moves to the side

and Rhodes counters by moving into the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Miller unloads a knee to the mid-section. Rhodes lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Knees in the clinch landing for Miller.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Joe Miller will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Duck Rhodes's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Rhodes swats away the attempt to clinch by Miller.

Rhodes darts in and clinches Miller up against the cage.
Rhodes content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Rhodes keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Miller's efforts to push away.
Miller wants to break free but Rhodes has control.
Rhodes has Miller pressed against the cage, preventing Miller from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Rhodes is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Miller to keep the fight standing.
Rhodes is trying to drag Miller to the mat but Miller just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Joe Miller has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Duck Rhodes.

Miller breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Joe Miller is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Miller fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Rhodes shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Miller as he jumps to the side.
Miller closes the distance and clinches up with Rhodes, looking for a takedown. Miller pushes Rhodes against the cage but Rhodes circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Miller scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Miller tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Miller wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Rhodes tightens his grip and picks Miller up, before dumping him to the ground. Miller manages to land in guard.
Miller wants to get back to his feet but Rhodes is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rhodes looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Duck Rhodes has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Miller misses with a takedown attempt
and Rhodes counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Miller throws a nice looking combination but Rhodes bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Miller tries to clinch but Rhodes is having none of it.
Miller tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rhodes swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Rhodes makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

and Miller counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Rhodes steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Miller. That one must have hurt.
Miller moves in looking to clinch but Rhodes pushes him off.

Some wild striking there from Miller.
Miller keeps the fight on the outside.
Miller dodges the punch combination from Rhodes.
Miller scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Miller avoids the head kick by Rhodes.

Miller tries to keep at a distance but Rhodes has taken the fight into the clinch.
Miller wants to break the clinch but can't.
Rhodes missing with knees to the body.
Miller wants to get back to striking at distance but Rhodes won't allow it.

Rhodes gets control of Miller's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rhodes will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Miller won't allow Rhodes to sweep him here.
Miller wants to get up but he can't break Rhodes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

A frustrated look appears on Miller's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Rhodes tries to pull guard but Miller forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Rhodes blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Miller pushes off an throws an elbow but Rhodes leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Rhodes takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Miller wants to stand and escape but instead Rhodes has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Rhodes is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Joe Miller wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Rhodes looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Miller!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Rhodes stands up and we're back to a striking position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Miller fails in his attempt to clinch.
Miller lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Rhodes looks to land a body kick but Miller moved away.
Miller scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Rhodes lands with a hook. Miller tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Rhodes looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Miller throws a body punch but Rhodes moves out of range.

Miller gets caught flat footed, as Rhodes shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Miller keeping moving, preventing Rhodes from controlling successfully.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Duck Rhodes hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Rhodes shoots in looking for a takedown but Miller manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rhodes's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Miller goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Rhodes throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Miller tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Rhodes is in Miller's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rhodes wants to stand but Miller has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Miller keeping moving, preventing Rhodes from controlling successfully.

And that's the end of the fight!
Duck Rhodes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Miller has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
