PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Juan Zed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Briggs Lovejoy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Juan Zed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Briggs Lovejoy!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Mauricio Rocha and Felipe Paraventi.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zed tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lovejoy swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lovejoy takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Zed avoids a punch combination nicely.

Zed shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Lovejoy keeping moving, preventing Zed from controlling successfully.
Zed wants to stand but Lovejoy is controlling his posture from full guard.
Lovejoy is trying to keep Zed in close.

Lovejoy seems keen to control Zed's posture.

Juan Zed has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
A head kick misses from Lovejoy.
Lovejoy tries to close the distance and clinch up but Zed swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lovejoy doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Zed counters with a two punch combo.
Zed changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lovejoy tries to avoid it but Zed manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lovejoy to the ground. Lovejoy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Lovejoy.

Zed throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lovejoy was covering up waiting for the punch and Zed finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Zed decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Lovejoy, up you get!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zed shoots in for a takedown but Lovejoy shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Zed takes the fight into the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lovejoy wants to stall.
Lovejoy wants to get back to striking at distance but Zed won't allow it.

Lovejoy successfully pulls guard.
Zed wants to stand and escape but instead Lovejoy has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Lovejoy working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Zed's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Zed controls Lovejoy momentarily but Lovejoy frees himself.
Lovejoy landing some decent shots from guard.
Lovejoy cracks Zed with a solid left hand.
Lovejoy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Lovejoy gets to his feet - Zed follows without any prompting.

Zed drives through and clinches with Lovejoy against the cage.
Lovejoy has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Zed avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Juan Zed has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Briggs Lovejoy.
Zed is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Lovejoy is trying to break the clinch but Zed has him pressed against the cage.

Lovejoy manages to pull guard.
Lovejoy wants to stand and escape but Zed is having none of it.

Lovejoy bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Zed's guard.

Lovejoy stands up and waves to Zed to follow him.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Zed throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Zed misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Zed is breathing heavily.
Zed shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lovejoy but Lovejoy pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The fight stays on the outside here - Zed looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Zed misses with a few strikes there.
Nice takedown defense from Zed. No joy for Lovejoy on that attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Juan Zed will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Lovejoy tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Zed paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Lovejoy gets caught flat footed, as Zed shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Lovejoy is looking for a triangle but Zed pushes his legs off easily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lovejoy tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Zed is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Lovejoy has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Zed is looking to defend but Lovejoy has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Zed! Lovejoy pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Zed taps out and this one is all over!
