PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Genghis Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Demetrius Colrane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khan comes into the arena with Mongol blaring out of the sound system. Genghis Khan has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Genghis Khan!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Demetrius Colrane!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Colrane fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Khan manages to avoid it.
Khan throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Khan clinches with his opponent.
A head punch on the inside from Khan fails to land.
Colrane has a couple of punches blocked by Khan.
Colrane swings wildly with an uppercut but Khan uses good head movement to avoid it.
Khan tries to work over Colrane's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Khan lands with a left to the head.

Colrane pulls guard successfully.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Khan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Khan working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Colrane is pulling down on Khan's head. It's preventing any offense from Khan, at least for the moment.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Demetrius Colrane hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Colrane throws a hook but Khan blocks it.
Colrane shoots in and drives through. Khan sprawls well.
Colrane walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Khan checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Khan darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Colrane circles away from the clinch attempt.
Colrane walks into a straight right hand from Khan.
Khan looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Colrane swings for the body but Khan moves out of range.
Colrane explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Khan doesn't manage to clinch there - Colrane circles away.

Colrane shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Khan is refusing to be controlled, as Colrane sits in half guard.
Khan is looking for a sweep. Colrane is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Khan is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Khan wants to control but Colrane is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Colrane missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Khan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Colrane is stalling here. Khan is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Colrane seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Khan has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
You can see the frustration on Colrane's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Colrane is trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Khan remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Colrane is looking to reverse the position.

Khan is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Colrane is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Khan is staying active.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Genghis Khan will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Colrane rushes Khan and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
Khan lands a hook that snaps the head of Colrane backwards.
Khan tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Khan lands a shoulder strike.
Khan lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Khan goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Still in the clinch, Khan scores with a nice short uppercut.
Colrane drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nice body punch from Khan - that landed with a thud.

A nice right hand lands inside from Colrane.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Colrane.
The referee is keeping an eye on Khan - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Khan blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Khan is looking to control Colrane's arms but Colrane gets an underhook and turns him. Now Khan has his back to the ropes.

Khan cracks Colrane with a nice body shot.

Colrane turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Colrane manages to end up in side control.

Khan is trying to maintain the position but Colrane is very close to passing his half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Colrane connects with a nice short shot to Khan's temple.
Khan moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Khan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Colrane throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Khan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Demetrius Colrane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Khan tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Colrane was well out of range. Poor timing from Khan.

That was a close second round but I would say that Genghis Khan will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.

Colrane motions for Khan to come forward. Colrane throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Colrane throws a nice looking combination but Khan bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Khan ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Khan wants to clinch up but Colrane keeps it at a distance.

Colrane scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Colrane throws the left hand but Khan avoids the punch easily.
Colrane takes one to the side of the head.
Colrane throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Khan is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Genghis Khan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Colrane throws a shot from downtown. Khan moves away and avoids it.
Colrane misses with a looping right.
Khan lands a nice shot that snaps Colrane's head back.


Colrane is rocked!
Khan walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Colrane drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Khan swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Colrane's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:26 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Genghis Khan!
Genghis Khan retains his middleweight title!
An out of breath and clearly excited Genghis Khan thanked Pirates Powder for their help and support (and free stuff they sent him).
Demetrius Colrane spoke after the fight, saying 'He got lucky, I can beat him any day this was a fluk and in a rematch I'd smash his face in'.
