The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gavin connects with a high kick.
Gavin swats away the attempt to clinch by Makkonen.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Makkonen checks a leg kick.
Gavin scores with a crisp jab that stopped Makkonen in his tracks.
Gavin digs a good body shot into Makkonen's ribs.
Gavin lands a slapping body shot.
Gavin connects with a body shot.
Gavin throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Gavin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Makkonen manages to avoid it.

Makkonen is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Makkonen manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Gavin on his heels. He'll look to pass Gavin's guard now, I'm sure.

Gavin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Makkonen is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

and Gavin counters with a three punch combo that has Makkonen backing up. Makkonen nods at Gavin to acknowledge the strikes.
Gavin loads up on a big right hand but Makkonen slips the punch.
Gavin looks to score with a jab to the body but Makkonen is just out of range.

Makkonen checks the leg kick.
Makkonen tries to work over Gavin's front leg with a kick but Gavin checks it.
Gavin turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Makkonen avoids the body shot from Gavin.
Makkonen checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Nice straight punches there by Gavin. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Gavin.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Makkonen closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gavin circles away.
Gavin lands a nice shot to the body.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gavin scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Tommy Gavin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gavin throws a hook to the side of Makkonen's head but Makkonen sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Makkonen's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Gavin connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Makkonen scrambles back to his feet.
Donk. Gavin catches Makkonen right on the button with a cross.
Makkonen uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Gavin.

Makkonen on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
A punch lands to the side of Makkonen 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Gavin pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Makkonen shoots in and drives through. Gavin sprawls well.
