Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Gonzales !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Daniel Powell !
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Steve Montenegro and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gonzales shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Gonzales is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Powell doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gonzales .

Powell is not content to let Gonzales control the position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Gonzales in particular looking to stall.

Gonzales seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Powell for as long as he can get away with.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Michael Gonzales just wasn't active enough.
Powell is looking to clinch but Gonzales is avoiding it.

Gonzales shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Powell is not content to let Gonzales control the position.
Gonzales wants to pass the guard but Powell is defending well.

Powell shoots in but Gonzales avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Gonzales swats away the attempt to clinch by Powell .

Gonzales is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Powell 's half guard.

Gonzales wants to work for an arm triangle but Powell is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Gonzales working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Gonzales escapes and gets back to his feet.
Powell wants to clinch up but Gonzales keeps it at a distance.
Powell throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Powell moves in looking to clinch but Gonzales pushes him off.

Gonzales gets a takedown into half guard.

Gonzales is working for a kimura but Powell is defending it quite comfortably.

Gonzales stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Gonzales shoots in and bounces Powell off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Gonzales is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gonzales gets to his feet - Powell follows without any prompting.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Powell shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gonzales but Gonzales pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Powell tries to clinch but Gonzales is having none of it.
Gonzales defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Powell .

Powell is looking for a sweep. Gonzales is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Powell is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Gonzales shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Gonzales stands and throws Powell 's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Powell is breathing heavily.
Powell takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Gonzales lands a nice forearm strike.

Gonzales wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Powell , who protects the arm well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gonzales is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Powell 's shoulder. That is not cool.
Powell defending against the ground and pound.

Gonzales tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Gonzales in side control, throwing shots but Powell defends.

Gonzales decides to stand back up. Gonzales steps back and let's Powell get back to his feet.
Powell with a lazy takedown attempt
and Gonzales counters with a big head kick but Powell shrugs it off.
Gonzales moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Daniel Powell has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gonzales with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Gonzales shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Gonzales pushing down on Powell 's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Gonzales is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Powell has managed to free his arm - good work.

Gonzales is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Gonzales decides to return to a standing position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Powell doesn't manage to clinch there - Gonzales circles away.

Gonzales shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Daniel Powell 's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Powell is not content to let Gonzales control the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gonzales is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Powell !

Gonzales looking to control but Powell is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Gonzales is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Powell has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Gonzales can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Powell is looking to escape.

Gonzales throwing strikes here but Powell is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Gonzales takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Gonzales prevents Powell from getting the reversal.
Gonzales can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Powell is looking to escape.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Gonzales is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Powell has managed to escape the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gonzales is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Powell has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Powell !

Gonzales pushes Powell off and gets back to his feet.

Gonzales closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gonzales lands in his opponent's guard.

Powell keeping moving, preventing Gonzales from controlling successfully.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Powell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gonzales controls the pace.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Michael Gonzales .

Michael Gonzales showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Gonzales has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
