Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Akins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samuel Derpens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michael Akins has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Michael Akins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Samuel Derpens!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Derpens throws a nice inside leg kick.
Derpens wants to clinch up but Akins keeps it at a distance.
Derpens misses with a double jab.
Derpens tries to close the distance and clinch up but Akins swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Akins shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Derpens as he avoids it easily.
Derpens throws a quick inside leg kick.
Derpens wants to clinch up but Akins keeps it at a distance.
Derpens lands a right hook to the body.

Derpens moves into range and clinches up with Akins.
Akins tries to pull guard but Derpens forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Derpens ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Derpens no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Akins wants to stand but Derpens is controlling his posture from full guard.

Derpens working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Akins doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Akins manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Akins has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Derpens is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Derpens keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Akins's efforts to push away.

With the fighters up against the cage, Akins throws an elbow but misses.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Derpens is trying to control Akins's posture but Akins avoids it.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Akins is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Derpens has escaped the position, nice work there.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Akins is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Derpens to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Derpens shrugs it off.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Akins is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Derpens is surviving well by controlling Akins's body position as best he can.

Akins get's back to his feet.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Derpens creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Akins shoots in and drives through. Derpens sprawls well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That was a close second round but I would say that Michael Akins will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Derpens breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Derpens is looking to clinch but Akins is avoiding it.

Derpens shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Derpens tries a head kick but it misses.
Derpens throws a sloppy head kick and Akins moves out of range easily.

Akins moves into the clinch.
Akins has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Derpens avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michael Akins. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Akins is trying to drag Derpens to the mat but Derpens just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Derpens breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Akins takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Samuel Derpens comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Derpens has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
